Ubisoft: Seriously, Splinter Cell Conviction won't suck photo

Ever since Ubisoft announced that Splinter Cell Conviction (along with a number of other titles), would be pushed back until 2010, the European publisher has been trying to assure fans that it's not because the games suck. Yves Guillemont was quick to point out that the delay was "a question of polish," and the game's official site now declares that the delay was necessary to live up to Ubi's own ambition.

"Splinter Cell Conviction is a very important game for us. We want to ensure it’s a game that long-term fans and gamers new to the series equally enjoy when they play it. Previous Splinter Cell games have set the bar very high when it comes to quality and enjoyment, we are firmly focused on continuing this with Conviction," states Ubisoft.

"After demonstrating the new vision for the game at E3 2009 we won many awards and got a lot of interest from fans and press alike. In order to live up to our own ambitions and your expectations, we strongly feel that giving our teams that extra time will allow us to present a game to you that will fulfill that potential. Due to this, we have decided to move the release date into Q1 2010. This extra time will ensure Splinter Cell Conviction becomes every bit the fantastic experience we want it to be."

It seems that a lot of games are being pushed to 2010, and I honestly don't blame them. Would you want to go up against Modern Warfare 2 and ten thousand Guitar Hero games? If you would, you're an idiot. I really hope that this delay is, indeed, a matter of polish. It looked amazing at E3, and I hope that the full game will be consistently excellent.

If you're selling your game for only one console, you better be damn sure that it don't suck.

Surely its better for it to suck on just one console than it to suck on every console in the world.

This game looks awesome. Given the choice between this and Assassins Creed I choose Conviction. The E3 demo was pretty slick.

I'm glad they're giving extra time to polish the game up. I'm sure it'll have some glitches even when it comes out but hopefully everything is smooth as silk. Seriously so far I can't complain, everything I've seen about this game screams "MUST BUY!"

'Previous Splinter Cell games have set the bar very high when it comes to quality and enjoyment (apart from Double Agent which we cheaply farmed out too our Shanghai sweatshop development studio) and we are firmly focused on continuing this with Conviction'

Fixed!

Shut your mouth, Double Agent was awesome.

Yes, yes, we all loved Chaos Theory, but it's time to move on. If you couldn't handle that in Double Agent and now Conviction, then you should stick to your Steven Seagal straight-to-DVD formulas.

Blaahahahahahhahaa cottaging... My buddy had to pick up a British dude from an airport that was flying in for the week to work at his company. When he heard Cottage Country on the radio during the weather forecast he nearly shit himself laughing.

The holidays will from this year on be called Callofdutidays and the best games will come out in spring rather than the Callofdutidays.

I don't know where all the hate for Double Agent comes from, I actually really enjoyed that game. I thought the "moral choices" in that game were 1,000x better than most anything that's been done b4 or since (I loved how you had to worry about blowing your cover).

Also, the visuals on the 360 version were quite beautiful. The only flaw I found was that the gameplay was a little stale/dated, but lord knows that's not a unique problem to Double Agent.

The reason Double Agent gets so much hate from some people, and praise from others, is that while the console versions may have been pretty decent games, the PC version was a prime example of a sloppy port. We are talking gamebreaking bugs here. I couldn't load any savegame, except the most recent one. That really sucked when you had saved the game after doing something stupid.

You forgot to finish his quote.

We want to ensure its a game that long-term fans and gamers new to the series equally enjoy when they play it... except those worthless PS3 owners.

I think this is a bum move. They'll lose a lot of clout waiting till Q1 2010.

Sure they're not launching around MW2 - but this is one of the few games that could cause PS3 user jealousy - perhaps squeeze out some more 360 sales - but it's coming out with Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, MAG etc.

It would have way more impact on the whole "which console" side of things if it came out this year.
