Ubisoft: REAL men kill with blades, get $5 off on Amazon photo

So, a big game came out over the last few days, set in modern times where men fought men using guns, grenades and gillie suits. But Ubisoft knows better, because REAL men made Renaissance Warfare, using blades, knives and pointy objects on each other.

Those sentiments were reflected in Ubisoft's latest newsletter, encouraging "shooter fans" to "kill with skill" and preorder Assassin's Creed 2. To sweeten the deal for their "BFF" newsletter subscribers, the letter came with an Amazon.com promo code that knocks $5 off the game's preorder price. As of this writing, that price is $55.99, already $5 less than retail.

Ten bucks off for a preorder, not bad at all. Just check the image in the gallery for the code, then enter it during the Amazon checkout process.

Sorry, Palazzo Medici and Santa Maria Dei Frari, mad discounts speak louder than you!

[Thanks for the tip, Tylor!]

Oh yeah, why am I looking for my dad's handgun, I'll just took my mom's kitchen knife and go stab random people on the street to show off my skill and go hide into some random tall buildings after that.

Wait, wtf, Happy Killing!!?? THIS will cause controversy.

For some reason this looks a lot like an Atlus move.

...I... like it.

Sorry, but considering the hype then criticisms of the original AC, I'm not plopping any money down for AC2 until I read the reviews -- $5 off or not.

Arithmetic failure. $59.99 - $5.00 = $54.99, not $55.99.

@John B
Did you play the first one or assume because of the criticism that it was bad?

People news to learn to avoid hype. We have a blog about avoiding spoilers and now we need one for hype. Seriously AC1 wasn't THAT bad. It was just repetitive. The core of the game however wasn't really that bad. You people need to learn to plug out of the industry hype machine every once in a while.

All that said...yeah I'm renting it too. :P

EA is going to respond by taking Medal of Honor to the STONE AGE.

Real men use stones to fend off dinosaurs and sabertooth tigers.

@Xzyliac:

And the repetition (forced grinding?) was bad enough that Ubi had to come out and say that they're promising not to do it this time. If they need to indirectly apologize like that, then that's indication enough to me that the game had serious flaws.

Right now we have a lot of really good games out there, some of which are a few years old. The game consumer can pick and choose. If a game has enough flaws that its developers have to say, "Our bad!" that's a signal to me to look elsewhere for my gaming entertainment.

And the criticism came from multiple locations, not just Destructoid.

I think that Jurassic: The Hunted or whatever wins that award.

Kill with skill? Are you kidding me? With a sword, all you have to do is run in and push the attack button. At least you have to aim with a gun.

Do they charge you now or monday night? I rather pay now. And thx for the awesome deal. I look for any excuse not to order from Gamestop. Screw their bonus content when I can get the game same day for cheaper.

Right I know that.

But wouldn't prefer if a dev, no matter that flaw or it's size, come out and say they'd fix it in the sequel? I don't see how that has anything to do how big or small the flaw is. It means they're looking at the criticisms.

At the end of the day it's all about opinion and no one's right or wrong so there's no point in bickering. I'm just saying don't knock it 'til you try it.

You forgot about the $10 GC amazon is also offering for the game. I'll take this over the Gamestop DLC. I could always buy the DLC whenever they release it.

I'm still getting the Master Assassin edition.
That Ezio figure is too much awesomeness to be surpassed by a five bucks discount.
