Ubisoft preparing for new consoles in 2012 photo

2012 seems to be the year that everyone's focusing on as far as the next generation of consoles is concerned, and Ubisoft seems to be no different. The French publisher is hiring new staff in preparation of the successor consoles, which it is expecting in or around that magic year.

"We want to take advantage of a company that could bring more technology to us, or new brands," claims CEO Yves Guillemot. "So we have now enough to help us to grow the company for not only next year but to get ready for the coming of the next generation consoles that are probably going to happen 2011, 2012.

"We have to be ready for that, we are already hiring people and buying some technology and looking at some brands as well."

Ubisoft will also be announcing the acquisition of a new sports property, following the success of Shaun White Snowboarding. So, while other companies are currently cutting staff and preparing for hard times, Ubisoft is lapping it up. Good for them, I guess.

I figured it out, 2012 they will release a new Xbox console dubbed the Xbox 1080. Every last console will fail on launch day, and the blinded masses will go insane and kill everyone in the world.

Nostradamus?! MAYANS?! Fanboys?!?!?

2012 is too soon,Each generation of consoles seems to last longer, and thanks to the economy alot of people can't even jump into this gen.Besides I don't think any of the current consoles are showing any signs of old age yet(ok the 360 might be),but I suppose that can change by then.

They are still touting the god damn Xbox 360 and PS3 as "nextgen" consoles. Ancient history I say.

It's a good guess, but I would like to believe that this generation will be about one year longer before a new console launches. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I do know that next time around, I'm waiting one year after the last console launches before I buy any of them.

Doesn't the impending apocalypse negate the need?

Haha that's pretty funny, because that's the year that we're all going to FUCKING DIE! But nice try, Ubisoft.

2012 is what I would've guessed as well... though I wouldn't be surprised to see a new xbox before that date... M$ said it would support it for 5 years, and it's been out for 3 now ( i think ) so 2 more years, that would be 2011 :-)

No complaints with "current gen" graphics, so I'm in no hurry to drop 400+ bucks just to play the new releases. 2012 is fine I suppose, but I don't think we NEED anything new just yet.

I wonder what Sony will have to say about this. What with their whole 'ten year plan' and all.

Slique: What doesn a 10 year plan have to do with this? It not like they will stop supporting the PS3 when they release their new console. This is Sony, not Microsoft.
