Uh, wow. Didn't see that coming, but I'm glad to hear it. I seriously avoided Ubisoft like the plague when it came to buying PC games, but now I can consider SimCity on my radar.

I seriously considered buying PoP2008 during the Steam summer sale, but then I remembered it's published by Ubisoft, so I pirated it instead. Still haven't played it, and probably won't since I'm still working on lots of other games (PC and PSP, legit and pirated) and I'm really kinda PoPed out after Revelations and Rival Swords (and I started PSP Forgotten Sands; what garbage!)

Id wager they try to ninja sneak something in their games. Not right away but some witherd old executive is gonna shake his gnarled fist at the earnings report. Raging that they only made 30 millions and not 31 million on a game.

doesn't change anything if they're implementing online features into all of their PC games with singleplayer component(just like they did with Anno 2070) or the fact that currently they only have free2play and multiplayer-only titles in their lineup.

i'm still avoiding the on pc though. they'll probably see some WiiU purchases out of me, if the quality they showed with ZombieU isn't just a farce.

In all honesty though, this is a good thing. It also makes Asscreed 3 and Watch Dogs on PC a tad more desirable. I'm curious if this is going to be a retroactive update to other Ubisoft PC games.

@sephirothX I think Jim means that he'll believe this when he sees it. I'm taking that approach as well. I'll buy Ac3 on PC when, and only when, it is confirmed by players it lacks their crap DRM.

Ah hell, I still won't buy their PC games because they're all meant for consoles and I can just buy or rent them for those platforms. Unless it's Splinter Cell. I did buy that because I don't have a 360.

Good to hear that I may actually lift my ubisoft boycott now, only waiting to see what they come up next, Drm that requires you to fill in your cd-key every 30 minutes and also use a captcha to check if you are not doing it with a bot?

i think for many of us the issue goes beyond the annoyance of the DRM. UBI has been downright hostile and insulting to PC players in more ways than just that, and i for one am not going to forget it in a hurry.

I still don't trust them, i can totally see them pulling a Sony and shoving a rootkit DRM in their games in the future until someone discovers it.

My question is, will this affect old games with the shit DRM, so they can be finally be played legitimately? Or will it be only be for the new ones like AssCreed 3 and Far Cry 3?
It's sometimes hard to listen with your head up your ass. Cut them a tad bit of slack their like every publisher in that sense :P

I'm pretty sure I remember them saying something like this last year or the year before, and then immediately going back on their word and implementing DRM in their big holiday PC title.
Nice try Ubi, but I still won't buy your PC titles. Unless they're on GoG and still, that's pretty rare.

Well, maybe if Far Cry 3 is worthwhile? I guess? Probably the only game of theirs I could see being potentially interesting.
This is an interesting first step. However, Ubi has much to do to get back the good will of the PC gamers. However, I might lift my boycott of Ubisoft's games and might even consider getting Watch Dogs when it comes out.
However, knowing Ubi, AC3 will probably not do as well as they want (no matter how unrealistic), they will yell piracy, and go back to locking their games down again, no lesson learned.
