Ubisoft is known, generally, for three things: Awful Wii shovelware, awful DS shovelware, and Assassin's Creed. You don't often see fighting games or RPGs associated with the huge European publisher, but all that's about to change as the company strives to explore new genres.
Chairman Yves Guillemot was at the BMO Capital Markets digital entertainment conference where he revealed the new genres, along with a Might & Magic MMO and Trackmania 2. He also said that casual games were on the way Project Natal and the Sony Wiimote. So, Ubisoft will soon be known for awful 360 and PS3 shovelware, too.
Anyway, new genres from Ubi. Good or bad?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Wow. Truer words have never been spoken.
Though I still remember them for Prince of Persia.
also idunno bout rpg's...
we'll see.
that is all i want.
Actually, a Rabbids RPG would be pretty awesome. I want to equip an epic plunger. And cast a Rank 3 BWAAAAH.
I mean, what more do you want? That's about as diverse as you can get and none of those are shovelware.
I come here often enouth to know when he is being sarcastic and not. Ubisoft is one of the most diverse companies out there, doing almost any type of game, either its fps, puzzle, racing, stealth, action, strategy, platforming, casual, adventure, fighting (if you think its new, the latest I can remmnber for example were the 2 Naruto games out for the xbox360, both received average to good reviews), and RPGs (for example, and as runtheplacered posted before me, Heroes of Might and Magic, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic). Even if the first sentence is just a joke, I really doubt the last two ones are.
Still, you are free to think whatever you want of course. I just hate seing a company that is trying to go the extra mile, and being remembered by "shovelware, shovelware and assassin's creed". Of course they do games for money, but that doesen't make it a bad company. I can surely recall a lot of companies that I'd rather hate.
Like I said before, not every game they make is a gold gem, but still a lot of them are pretty good, with some being considered the best of its generation.
...I still think Jim is a good writer tough, I just believe he sometimes tries too hard to be funny, and ends up being obnoxious.
Sorry for the wall of text. Peace, Aex out.
Shadowiii. As for using sarcasm in journalism.. obviously if it has to be explained as such after the fact you're probably better off avoiding it altogether. Dry sarcasm just doesn't really have much of a place in the written form. Not to say they can't coexist, but it takes some intuitiveness to use it. Some can manage that, some can't.
It's here.
Pathetic.
Also I wonder how bad Trackmania 2 will suck now that Ubisoft owns Nadeo.
