Man, those were the days. My favorite genre's manuals to read were the RPG's. Trying to soak up all the battle system info on my way from the store.
It's been so long since I've actually looked at a manual. Maybe since the PS2 days.
Seriously though, I don't think I'll miss Ubisoft Game manuals.
Also, Ubisoft saying this is to "go green" is complete garbage. It's because they are cheap, and they should lower the prices of their games for this.
Also, HOW WILL I BE ABLE TO WRITE NOTES AND COMMENTS WITHOUT A PAPER MANUAL?!?
I mean, before purchasing big stuff (consoles, usually) i download the manual, and read it. That way i can get a better feel if it's what i want, and moreover i'm already an "expert" by the time i get home with the new toy XD
When i bought the PSP, the manual was over 100 pages, monolingual. When i bought the PSP Slim, the crap was tiny and with 2 billion of different languages! I mean, wth.
Videogames ones instead, make a good read before going to sleep when i buy games right before dinner and i'm too tired to play after.
Then again, what does Ubisoft publish? Only barely interesting thing i can think of, is Assassin's Creed.
That said, I also agree with the fact that a move like this allows companies like Ubisoft to save even more money without passing a cent of those savings back to the consumer in any way, shape or form.
All that eco bullshit is exactly that. Next thing you know games will start coming in those lame-ass flimsy cases with the recycle logo cut out of the front and large chunks cut out of the back (maybe that's what you mean in that last paragraph).
Take your green bullshit and shove it up your square.
I'm still incredibly annoyed with the horrible 'green' DVD cases they're shoving down my throat. Aside from the fact that it makes the entire case fragile as hell, it feels like the disc is going to snap every time I try to remove it. Thankfully not every developer uses them, Deadly Premonition (a budget game) still had a real case, so if Ignition can afford it, Ubisoft definitely can.
This whole eco-movement isn't saving the planet at all. We had a great idea called recycling that worked out great (especially with the paper industry) until companies realized they wanted even more ways to increase their profit without us knowing. I understand it to an extent, but when you start cutting out (no pun intended) cases and manuals, you're cutting content that I've come to expect from a full priced game.
No wonder Dunder-Mifflin went under.
How much is a 'tom,' Dale? Is it two dales? lol
Also, will this mean that the digital manual will take away from game space? talking about 360 of course. (everyone knows you load a shitload more data on bluray)
No instruction manuals= no great games.
Some of you people think that you deserve a lower price for games without manuals?
Keep it classy internet.
