Ubisoft is working on a new RPG photo

There's no shortage of RPGs on the market these days (certainly different from when I was growing up!), bu tthat doesn't mean fans of the genre aren't always on the lookout for good new ones. Surely the ears of those fans will perk up when they hear that Ubisoft is working on a new fantasy-themed RPG.

Inside Mac Games spotted a listing on Gamasutra from Ubisoft Entertainment Shanghai seeking a Lead Game Designer on what they describe as "brand new fantasy RPG title for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac". Looks like you'll need a minimum of five years of experience in the industry to apply and also to have shipped at least two AAA RPG titles in a senior or lead game designer role.

Interesting, indeed. I'd like to see what kind of RPG Ubisoft might come up with. We haven't seen anything from them in this genre since they published Enchanted Arms, and that one got pretty middle-of-the-road scores. We'll keep an eye on this for you and let you know when we find out more.

Oh man, enchanted arms is pretty awful. I thought the battle system was actually a decent idea, just executed so poorly. Plus everything about the game was so generic and bland...so terrible.
Let's hope they can make a game that doesn't suck this time.

Actually, I'd say there's a huge shortage of RPGs. Real, traditional RPGs that is. Everything's a goddamn hybrid something or other these days.

Ubisoft definitely has the technology and the funds to make a really astounding RPG. Let's hope they take either the Far Cry 2 engine and perfect it for a little first person RPG action. The Assassin's Creed 2 engine could work nicely too. Maybe they should work on a way to combine code from both engines for maximum radness.

Whatever they do... they need to stay away from anything like the last Dark Messiah Might and Magic Elements or whatever it was called... that game was soooooo damn horrid.

Could care less about this news because enchanted arms was a regurgitated fetus eaten by a rabid wolf

WTF? Are you kidding me, the PS1 had a incredible collection of RPG.
Of course we have some blockbusters now, but it's kinda hard to find things like FFVII(and the others), Chrono Trigger and Cross, Valkyre Profile and etc.

I'm actually feeling pretty optimistic about this. Enchanted Arms was only published by Ubisoft, and developped by From Software. Same goes with Dark Messiah, if I recall correctly. From the sounds of it, Ubisoft plans to develop this RPG from the ground up. So, I'd rather wait and see what they can do before judging the final product. Who knows? Maybe they'll use the Far Cry 2 or AC2 engines for it, like Steel Suirrel said. I didn't particularly like AC, but the engine itself is impressive. I wouldn't mind trying an RPG made with it.

Yeah, Dark Messiah used the Source engine and was developed by Arkane Studios, whoever that is.

If I remember right... I think Ubisoft Shanghai did most of the PS2 Splinter Cell ports (if you want to call them that). Anyway, I do agree if this is being built from the ground up by Ubisoft solely, it will most likely be a classy game. I'm looking forward to what they are making.

Make a Rayman or Rabbids rpg and I'll buy it.

Another 2d Rayman please Ubisoft, or a HD version of the first one.

Unless the RPG is full of Rabbids - they are pretty awesome.

Wasn't that apparently good Naruto: Rise of a Ninja game an RPG?
