Ubisoft eyeing online games portal called 'Ubiworld'? photo

Ubisoft recently filed trademark for "Ubiworld," and our first guess was that it was some French version of Disney World. You know, instead of Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and that guy from The Jungle Book you'd have Sam Fisher, Rayman, and that guy from Rainbow Six

But the details of the filing seem to indicate that's not the case. The filing identifies the trademark for "Entertainment services namely providing an on-line computer game for others over global and local area computer networks and providing information on-line relating to computer games."

Sounds a lot like an online gaming destination to us, or at the last an online portal for all things Ubisoft-related. The publisher owns Ubiworld.com, which lends some credence to that particular bit of speculation. Of course, the publisher has been sitting on the domain since 2002, so recent trademarking (signed by CEO Yves Guillemot on October 10) could just be general housekeeping.

But until Ubisoft shows its hand, we're going to hold out hopes for a Rabbids-themed roller coaster.

Fuckin' hell, I don't want all of these services. Windows Live Games, Steam, Battle.net, OnLive(?), and now this? I want one program to launch all of my games from and to meet up with other gamers on. That program is Steam.

They tried it before with Ubi.com, the showcases of which were a proprietary MPlayer version that you could sort of play Rainbow Six on, Shadowbane and Uru. But then they rather famously gave all their marketing budget to forming the Fragdolls and throwing all their development initiative behind the Wii and producing Raving Rabbids and Red Steel.

Yeah, maybe they think they have better material this time around.

Poor Rayman. The Ubisoft mascot is so insignificant that he's not even remembered enough to be on a Ubisoft themed banner... damn rabbids ruined everything... :(

Seeing how Ubisoft is one of the top publishers that screws around with PC gamers so much I won't be surprised if this "Service for On-line computer games" is another abortion like Games For Windows Live.

I don't give a Flying Dutchman about Ubisoft until they repair their image and stop doing stupid crap like omitting DLC from the PC versions of their games.
