Ubisoft dishes out Far Cry 2 PC specs photo

Far Cry 2's showing at this year's E3 throroughly impressed me, but sadly, I knew that my PC would not be able to run the game at its full graphical capacity.

With Ubisoft's announcement of the PC specs for Far Cry 2 today, it looks like my assumption was correct. Here are the minimum requirements, followed by the max:

CPU: Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz, Pentium D 2.66 Ghz, AMD Athlon 64 3500+ or better
Video card: NVIDIA 6800 or ATI X1650 or better, Shader Model 3 required, 256 Mb of graphic memory
Memory: 1 GB
Media reader: DVD-ROM

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo Family, AMD 64 X2 5200+, AMD Phenom or better
Video card: NVIDIA 8600 GTS or better, ATI X1900 or better, 512 Mb of memory
Memory: 2 GB
Sound: 5.1 sound card recommended

So, will anyone else be sticking with the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 version of Far Cry 2 when it finally comes out?

It should run alright on my laptop, but I'll wait for a demo first.

I should be able to run this on my PC, but maybe not maxed. As it is, I can run Crysis maxed but the framerate drops to 20-30 fps whereas I take a few options from "very high" to "high" and I get 60fps.

All that bullshit aside, I'm still creaming my pants and will get the PC version.

Wow those are some low specs, why wouldn't you choose the pc version over the 360

Seriously those spec requirements are really nothing.

Hmm, looks like we've got another Crysis case on the go.

I'll probably get the PC version, but I'll wait to see what settings "recommended" is, and notch 'em one up. If it looks crap, 360 all the way.

I'ma get the 360 version, simply because of friends and those damn achievements that taunt you until you get them. Damn Achievement whoring. >_<

It's like Afrika, only with bullets and balls. I'll also be playing it on my PC, but really these requirements aren't that bad considering we live in a post-Crysis world now.

My PC has an AMD 64 x2 4600+ but it also has an 8800GTS...I should be ok.

PS3 would be nice though!

Wow, that's surprisingly low. I'm not much of a PC gamer, but I'm almost close to being able to run it. Still, my preference is console, so...

Who the fuck still plays PC games? 360 version for me. My computer would explode if I even held the FC2 disc within a few feet of it.

Hmmm. I needed to upgrade my graphics card anyway, and a 8800GT aint' that expensive these days. The processor is a different matter tho, I'm way behind the recommended :(

Anything that's coming out on console you should be able to run on a comparably priced gaming PC. And I doubt much of anything is going to be made that pushes far past the consoles anytime soon (blah blah Crysis gtfo). It's nice not really having to worry about specs anymore, certainly at least until the next set of consoles come along.

My 4-5 year old PC beats the recommended ones. Those are pretty low.

And as to Wedge's comment, seriously, 'I doubt much of anything is going to be made that pushes far past the consoles anytime soon.'? Come on - any game that comes out on PC/PS3/360 always looks/plays/has better A.I. on the PC version. That's just how it works.

You can thank PC games for HD lighting, Bloom, and so on as well. That stuff doesn't just get made for consoles, it starts on PC's.
Wedge's Avatar - Comment posted on 08/08/2008 22:49

It started on PC's, but there is nothing coming out now or anytime soon that is pushing the graphical envelope in a relevant way on PC. Seriously, point something out to me, would you? Right, and nothing WILL come out to do that, because it would be idiotic to devote resources to making something ultra-high end on the PC for the forseeable future anyways. Any game to be marketable needs to A) Run on consoles or B) Run on a wide range of PCs.
Wedge's Avatar - Comment posted on 08/08/2008 22:54

And by the way, it's a fucking good thing PC graphics have largely leveled out over the last couple years. Prices have fallen into the basement for making a high end gaming PC, and the console hardware is now so similar many games will get PC versions simply because it's not difficult to do.

If you still believe the PC versions look/play/hasbetter AI anymore though, that's simply a myth. You may get slightly better framerates and potentially higher resolution and AA, but that's about it in most cases. The advantage PC still holds is in easily updated and custom content, which is always the real reason why it's been awesome.

Wahaha! My computer just hits the recommended settings. My Processor is a slight bit better than the one recommended, and I have SLi 8600 GTSs, along with a Creative X-Fi and 2 GB of memory.

Whoo!

I could run it.

Now, if only I wanted to.

At what res are we talking about?

Recommended = NVIDIA 8600 GTS or better, ATI X1900 or better???

That's got to be for only 1024x768. There is no way those cards could give you 60fps+ @ 1900x1200.

Though a pair of 9800GTXs on the other hand...

My pc could run this currently but I plan on buying a quad core and an ATI 4870 soon.(Maybe 4870 X2) So pc all the way.

I'm a pc gamer first and foremost. You spend less on a pc game most of the time and you get more replayability. (Mods, patches etc)
