We've seen a teaser trailer. Game creator Michael Ancel has explicitly talked about it. Nevertheless, Ubisoft's complete ignorance of Beyond Good & Evil 2 is becoming an increasing concern, something that is abundantly more worrying with a recent show of skepticism in the game's release by a high-ranking executive.
"Sometimes you come back to an IP that didn't work because you still think it could have," states North American president Laurent Detoc in an interview, "like Beyond Good and Evil, which was leaked, so now people know we're working on a new one. Whether or not it comes out remains to be seen anyway, but we didn't want to abandon that IP because it has a cache and authenticity about it."
Am I the only one who finds that a little unsettling? Remains to be seen? So far, the game has been conspicuous in its absence at such events as GDC and E3, and the sheer silence surrounding the game is rather frustrating indeed. Either it's coming out or it's not. I really would like Ubisoft to clarify that, because right now, people have a lot of expectations invested in BG&E2, and it's better to dash their hopes sooner rather than later.
We'll try and get Ubisoft to spill the beans, but something tells me it'll be yet more silence.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Thankfully, he's the North American president and thus probably doesn't have much power over what the European development team is doing.
You'll take that game's extra stabbing and you'll LIKE IT!
However, I must disclose that I had a copy of the original, liked it, but ultimately sold it. It wasn't something I saw myself ever wanting to play again. I barely remember much about it.
This is why they focus on making Assassin's Creed 2 -- a sequel to a successful, pretty, though otherwise generic game with few risks -- in lieu of a game like Beyond Good and Evil 2 -- a sequel to an unsuccessful, pretty game that was refreshing, challenging, and innovative.
Like I said: Douchebags.
With that said, if I was an exec at Ubisoft, I would be very uneasy about doing a sequel and probably wouldn't support it. Why?
The sequel, I'm sure, will be awesome. I would buy it if it comes out. However, I also predict that it will utterly financially flop in the market as the first one did.
I mean, as a marketer, I don't know how you effectively sell the idea to the mass market that you're selling a game where you play as some dike-looking-chick with a butch haircut and green lipstick...oh, and her uncle is a pig.
Listen, I loved the first one. Absolutely loved it. But the truth is that it's not well conceived as a mass market product, nearly impossible to market, and would most likely be a commercial flop.
But selfishly, I still hope the sequel comes out...
Like...How many people signed a petition for a sequel? How long have people been lamenting on forums for a sequel. How much loved was BG&E by fans and critics? Helllooo.
Seriously, BG&E didn't sell well because Ubisoft sunk all it's marketing budget into Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and nobody even herd about BG&E till weeks after it was released. I loved Beyond Good and Evil, as did virtually everyone who played it. So maybe Ubisoft needs to stop dragging their asses in the dirt and make the sequel already.
They've disowned Rayman, and now his sister too.
Have they got a problem with Mickey? Like, he's a world-class game designer whose work stands out as one of few islands amongst the ocean of Ubi-fodder? Is that too much for them to take, that he shows his company up?
This is verging on flaming, so I'll stop. But... typical British stiff upper lip... meeeeeeelting...
