Ubisoft and Paramount inject Rainbow Six Vegas 2 with ad-tastic minigame photo

Let the in-game advertising commence! Ubisoft (aka the EA of Europe) has signed a deal with Paramount Pictures to infuse the 360 version of Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 gameplay-reliant advertising that will take the shape of an in-game scavenger hunt promoting upcoming movie Tropic Thunder.

Players will follow a series of clues within the game in order to receive a "free digital VIP map" for the title and gain entry into a Tropic Thunder sweepstakes for the chance to win an Xbox 360 Elite ... and ... for the love of ...

Most in-game advertisments are fairly passive, but this represents a new age of playable commercials, which brings things right back to the days of Cool Spot. I'm sure this is going to be very nice for Ben Stiller fans, but the whole idea of this scheme makes me cringe, quite frankly. I'm not surprised in the least that Ubisoft is involved.

Well you don't have to do it, and presumably the advertiser is paying for your map DLC. That is of course assuming you walk through his adverscape.

I'm not seeing how this is a bad trend. If it sucks, people won't do it. If it's good, people will.

And I loved coolspot. I even wrote an article about how I can still remember playing Coolspot, Avoid The Noid, and Chester Cheetah as a wee-lad.

It's Tropic Thunder, not Tropical.

"It's Tropic Thunder, not Tropical. "

Proves the advertising doesn't work.

FACT: I have Cool Spot in my bedroom right now, it is indeed a great game

FACT: I have RSV2 on my shelf right now, this advertising sounds very lame, I just want to enjoy Terrorist Hunt with my friends.

they ought to give you the game for cheap or free if you get ads- I wouldn't mind ads if this were the case I would take ads for a free game, but if you pay full price for a game, they should leave the ads out- though I wonder why they didn't do this on the PS3- sony pictures conflict?

If this game is full price I will activly try to hurt their sales.

Oh look, MS raping customers for more money. How fucking novel.

People: The game is already out. This will be an optional contest you can do to get entered in a sweepstakes and get a free map. And if you want to be pissed at anyone, be pissed at Ubisoft, not MS.

I think I saw this the other day. I had the game from GameFly and in the Convention Center there were poster ads for Tropic Thunder. Under them, it said something like "Walk just past the concession stand" or something like that. Every ad had a different way to go as you passed through that level.

I didn't follow though.

At least because of all this in-game advertising, we don't have to pay to play games on Live. Oh, wait...

What is happening with Ubisoft these days? They are making some really cool shit and giving us free maps for Vegas 2 but now they want to pull off a stunt like this? I think I will give it a miss. I don't like advertising at all. If I want something, I will go out and buy it/rent it, etc. Don't shove it in my fucking face everywhere I go.
