Not a big TrackMania player? Psh, you would say that. Today's news of Ubisoft acquiring the series' developer, Nadeo, is probably not relevant to your interests then. In preparation for your kind, I have found a YouTube video that may convince you otherwise. View it here.
Ubisoft had a few reasons for following through with the acquisition, IndustryGamers reports, and here they conveniently are. For starters, the uber company cites TrackMania as "the first eSport franchise for racing games."
"Through Nadeo, Ubisoft will gain an expert team, one of the best online technologies around as well as a flagship multiplayer game that enjoys an unrivaled reputation among a loyal and committed community," says Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.
"We are excited about the idea of introducing TrackMania to an ever-wider audience and sharing the expertise of Nadeo's teams with our company's other developers," he concludes. Excited you should be -- now seems like as good of time as any, what with the studio currently working on TrackMania 2 and all.
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied:
"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
What do you mean "coming soon"? Trackmania DS has been out for ages, and is really good.

This to me sounds more ominous than exciting, like they're going divide them up and demand half-assed ports.
I also don't know how this'll affect Nadeo's other two games. I just have this awful feeling Questmania and Shootermania are going to get the axe under Ubisoft simply because they're pet projects.
On the bad side... I don't know, having been part of the TM community since Sunrise, I feel a bit sad that they aren't just some little company any more.
I kind of trust Ubisoft to ensure any future console release plays as well as the originals. I'd see it more as making sure Nadeo's expertise gets involved with all aspects of it.
There's no real rush for them to get it out either, so hopefully it'll come with all the bits n pieces that make it great on PC. Ooh, imagine a community where once again, gamers on different platforms could play together. Okay, probably won't happen.
