My Health Coach: The Easyway to Stop Smoking is exactly what it sounds like. It's a game for the Nintendo DS meant to help smokers quit smoking. Ubisoft worked with Allen Carr who world renowned guru that has help millions quit smoking with his methods. There will be 15 games on this, um, game that will help smokers lose the illusion that they need nicotine. The game will be out this November.

I was going to have a little rant here about how this is just such obvious attempt at pulling in some easy cash. Instead, I'm just going to point out that the Fact Sheet that came with this announcement says this game is rated E/3+. Yep.

UBISOFT AND ALLEN CARR'S EASYWAY TEAM UP TO HELP SMOKERS QUIT

Ubisoft to Bring Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking to the Nintendo DS(TM) system in November 2008

SAN FRANCISCO – May 28, 2008 – Today Ubisoft announced that it will develop and publish the video game based on the successful Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking method. Designed for Nintendo DS(TM), Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking is scheduled for release in November 2008.

Published in 50 countries, Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking book is an international best seller, and Allen Carr's Easyway network of clinics spans the globe. Over 10 million smokers worldwide have already turned to Allen Carr's Easyway books, clinics or DVD in order to stop smoking. The method removes the smoker's belief that smoking provides them with any genuine pleasure or crutch, takes away the feeling of deprivation and therefore rids the smoker of the fear of stopping. The clinics offer a full money-back guarantee based on which the success rate after 3 months is over 90% and independent scientific studies confirm a success rate of over 50% after 12 months.

Brought to an exciting interactive platform, Nintendo DS, Allen Carr's Easyway method will take on a whole new dimension. Players will be actively participating in the game's content as they input the details of their smoking habits and even select their own Allen Carr's Easyway coach to take them through the process of quitting.

Developed in conjunction with Allen Carr's top experts, the game echoes the philosophy of Allen Carr's Easyway method, enabling players to be entertained, challenged and to stop smoking at the same time.

"Ubisoft's creative team has worked hard to deliver a game that successfully communicates Allen Carr's Easyway method via play," said Christian Salomon, vice president of worldwide licensing at Ubisoft. "The player experiences a truly interactive engagement with the game through which he or she learns that it can actually be enjoyable to quit smoking."

Robin Hayley, managing director of Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking, concurs. "There was an amazing synergy between Allen Carr's Easyway team and Ubisoft as we worked on this project," he said. "Our experts worked hand in hand with the Ubisoft team to create an entertaining and illuminating game that delivers Allen Carr's Easyway method in a new, dynamic and highly effective way."

This game looks amazing, but I don't smoke :( and this whole sentence is a lie. I know what you're thinking: if I said "this whole sentence is a lie" in that sentence doesn't it mean that is it the truth?

I hate you Liwan you spam bot you.

Oh and this game is obviously another way to get quick cash real quick. I thought nicotine patches were meant to help smokers quit.

The funny thing is, if you had a heroin addict next to a smoker and told them to quit at the same time, the heroin addict would actually find it easier to quit taking heroin than the smoker to quit smoking cigarettes. That's the magic of nicotine for you so I doubt a video game is going to get them to quit.

This kinda thing was entirely likely given all the trash that is coming out for the Wii/DS. Pretty much the main reason I'm getting pissed off with Nintendo (along with them banning voice chat to ensure I can't discuss child molestation with other like-minded and confirmed peadophiles) they're releasing all this crap happily (multiple Garfield games, same release day? Come one now) and very few actually good game. In fact, the one good game since No More Heroes - SSBB - gets delayed in Europe for no real reason. Great job!

Roughly same logic applies to Ubisoft, some of their stuff recently has been balls.

Also, WIGGLE WIGGLE WIGGLE

It won't work. It took me a year and a half, nicotine lozenges, and a pill that almost drove me insane to quit, AND I still crave cigarettes every day.

Don't start, kids!

One of the keys to quit smoking is to find out why you started in the first place, which is usually acceptance, avoiding problems, self deprecation/destruction, and just plain being bored out of your mind. I quit last year (FINALLY) and I owe it all to the Man who reminded me I'm worth something.

This might work... if you really want it to... but I couldn't help thinking I'm playing a DS to stop smoking, which I used to do simultaneously.

Damn! And to think I quit cold turkey two years ago after smoking for 12! Fuck! Ah well, this is still genius. I hope it helps a good many folks kick that nasty habit.

Carr's book got me to quit. I finished reading it and haven't smoked in 18 months since. I'll never do it again, happily.

If it helps drive Carr's point home, then by all means, put a game out.
