I'm hesitant to post another video on the main page, since it's already cluttered with the likes of the Pikmin-gone bad, Overlord, and the PSP RPG goodness of Jeanne D'Arc. But this new Assassin's Creed trailer, straight from Ubisoft's Ubidays event in Paris, must be seen by everyone ... right now. Call your mom into the room.

This game completely took me by surprise at E3 when I wormed my way into Ubisoft's behind-closed-doors showing to see a game that I had never heard of before. It was gorgeous and intriguing, but certainly in need a lot of work to get where it needed to be. It's been quiet on the Assassin's Creed front for the past few months, and now we know why -- polish, baby.

Now before it becomes the next "Mad World," let it be known right now that the song in the trailer is the UNKLE track "Lonely Soul," from their debut record Psyence Fiction. It was released in 1998, nearly 10 years before Assassin's Creed, which should hit shelves later this year ... right? Pretty please?

@Tron

I couldn't agree more, I mean, it's impressive visually, but I don't think it will be up to par on gameplay. I could be wrong I have before.

I was worried for awhile since the earlier demos looked kind of crappy, but this may turn out awesome after all.

Poor gameplay?

Using a revolutionary control scheme to navigate an accurately reconstructed Jerusalem during the time of the Crusades with complete freedom sounds like a good start to me. Using that control scheme to interact with any object the protrudes 2 inches or more, a dynamic crowd AI, and what we saw of the combat system in that trailer sounds pretty damn good too.

Personally, I'm not worried about the gameplay.

Guys, right now my game brain is evolving, a few years ago I would have been jizzing with excitement, but for some reason I'm watching this trailer knowing that this game ticks all the right boxes, but I'm not excited.

Games are becoming like fucking Hollywood - we just know what to expect - it's always going to be a corporately polished look which does it's best to shove it's production values in your face, which is fine but my game brain in 2007 craves so much more.

Games right now are like music before The Beatles, as in, there are plenty of quality games but it's all expected quality, nothing mind blowing. For example running through the crowded streets in Assassin's Creed with its realistic physics looks great, but by now in the year 2007, I want to be interacting with that crowd in complex way, not just pushing and shoving.

So, it looks good, but this version of good is so expected and so laboured to me. Chances are, I will get it, then get bored and not finish it.

zardoz,

While I thought the trailer was fantastic and I'm really looking forward to it I feel the exact same way. Mainstream/popular movies, music and film for the most part bore me (and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way here). Independent media is *always* the most interesting, takes the most risks and in my eyes the most rewarding to watch/listen/consume. Games are slowly going in that direction, of what you said. I'm sure it's going to be good, but "safe" good. But can you really blame these huge companies? A quick look at Psychonauts or Okami will tell you why that's the case.

Makes me wonder how long it really will be until we see the trailer remixes.

As for the game, I think I'm going to say now that it's sex in video game form. But that's just me.

Never expected to hear that song used in a game trailer, but awesome nonetheless.

Its almost like the song was created for the game. But that soundtrack was recorded it 1998, almost ten years before the release of assassins creed. Coincidence? I think not. You see, I think That UNKLE, the people who recorded the song, built a time machine to see in the future and they saw this game and recorded the soundtrack for it knowing the people who cut that video would use the song. Need i say more?
