Ubi publishing Little Big Adventure creator's latest game photo

Frédérick Raynal is a name that some old school gamers may know. He is, after all, the man who created survival horror catalyst Alone in the Dark and cult classic Little Big Adventure. The French developer is working on a brand new secret project, to be published by Ubisoft later this year.

We know absolutely nothing about the game. All we know is that it is not a new Little Big Adventure game and that it has been secretly in development since 2006. Those are all the details. Methinks E3 will be the place to reveal it though. Should be promising, whatever it is.

I hope it's an adventure/platformer of some kind. It probably isn't, but I hope it is.

We also know I won't buy it no matter how good it is due to DRM.

Uhhhh was it meant to say Little Big Planet? You're welcome :)
But really, wish I had ever played the game.

@Uther -- While both Little Big Planet and Little Big Adventure are great games, it's difficult to beat Little Big Adventure's fun character designs and imaginative setting. It's certainly a bit dated by today's standards, but you have to the look at it through the context of the time it was originally released.

I always like "the Dig" - don't know if it's related, but it's a similar style.

They'd have their work cut out for them marketing this. I can just imagine all the Sony gamers being like "This is nothing like Little Big Planet! This spinoff sucks!!"

What game is that image from? I remember playing it years ago but I can't for the life of me remember the name.

Finally! I've been waiting to hear what Frederick Raynal has been up to since Toy Commander. Every game he's worked on since then has ended up getting cancelled. Twinsen's Odyssey is one of my favorite games of all time. Possibly even my favorite.

Little Big Adventure was so much fun to mess with when I was little, I still remember the race cars haha.

And I didn't know he made Alone In The Dark also, so strange.

LBA2 is my second favourite game of all time.
This news excites me, but upsets me that it isn't LBA3

@Stu:

Well, that's the "Little Big Adventure" game everyone's talking about here. The name's probably not clicking with North Americans, as it was called "Relentless - Twinsen's Odyssey" there.

Anyways. LBA 1&2 were (are) completely amazing games. I remember loving the universe they created. They are, however, not exactly comparable to point 'n click adventures like "The Dig", as someone mentioned here, as they contain a fair share of action, no inventory puzzles, and well... no pointing and clicking.

"Relentless - Twinsen's Adventure", not "Odyssey". Sorry, my bad. Should probably get my facts straight before rambling about stuff.

Odyssey was the second one. GODDAMNIT! I feel rather stupid now. :)

I have no idea how to respond to this news, having just passed my 30th birthday I should be nodding calmly and saying "interesting" or "well, its about time" my actual response has been to get really giddy and I'm tempted to run around the apartment yelling hurrah.

I'm a fan.

Is this the game he's supposedly been working on with Ubisoft Montpellier since 2006?
