U2 likes the idea of music games, would love to be in one photo

Musicians have been very quick to sh*t all over music games with their "play a real instrument" demands and whining that titles like Guitar Hero and Rock Band discourage kids from wanting to learn music. However, Irish rock band U2 has actually praised the idea behind these games, with bassist Adam Clayton claiming the group wouldn't mind being in one ... if the conditions are right.

"We definitely would like to be in there, but we felt some of the compromises weren't what we wanted," explains the bassist. "That could change. I love the idea that that's where people are getting music, and we'd love to be in that world. We'll figure something out. What The Beatles have done, where the animation is much more representative of them, is what we're interested in, rather than the one-size-fits-all animation. We didn't want to be caricatured."

So, U2: Rock Band perhaps? Is that something you'd be interested in playing, or are you one of those people that hate Bono and will take a massive crap upon anything U2 is involved in because of it? I don't care what anybody says, I think U2's alright, and wouldn't mind seeing more of that music in Rock Band.

I could see this being in with the next batch of GH games. I've been curious as to what spin-off they'll do next. I was thinking another era game a la Rock the 80s but I could see a GH:U2. God I hate U2.

Seriously though I really hope bands don't start demanding the TB:RB treatment and aren't content with DLC. Talk about a great thing blowing up in your face for Harmonix.

I just don't understand how anyone can hate Bono.

WTF did the guy ever do?

On topic, I wouldn't buy a U2 branded game, but I'd be interested in seeing their songs in music games.

U2's songs all sound the same. :P

I don't mind U2 but I don't love them either, as such I don't think I can play a game full of nothing but their music. However, if a couple of albums or song packs were released on Rockband with some appropriate U2 animations, I might pay a premium for that.

You know that's pretty logical. Remember when they had the drummer rapping for Clint Eastwood? And they've been doing stuff like that a lot more recently.

Maybe that'll satisfy those Irish bastard.

Seriously if any band from Ireland should be demanding anything should be everyone's favorite band: The Cranberries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To The Faithful Departed PPLLEEAASSEE!!!!!

@EternalDeathSlayer: I think its two reasons why theres hate:

1. Young people may have been exposed to Bono's charity work before they were exposed to U2's music so they equate him to a Paris Hilton like figure because they have no idea why he's famous

2. Old people who are content with their old U2 CDs don't want to listen to new music and are annoyed that U2 continues to make music and play the new music quite a bit on their tour. Half of their tour this year consists of music thats 8 years old or less, and thats annoying to people who've listened to them for 25 years.

There is just something that is tasteless about U2's music. Granted, I am am an elitist when it comes to music, but U2 is one of the bands like that just keep making albums that sound the same. A U2 game would be just as insipid as the band

The drummer rapping wasn't ever a drummer. That was Del The Funkee Homosapien, and he's the shit, if you like rap that doesn't suck. Just listen to Deltron 3030 - it's epic, quite literally. How many times have you ever heard a rap concept album?

I know I'm saying in Rock Band they had the drummer rapping instead of the vocalist as an homage to the music video where a cartoon version of Del comes out of Russel's head.

What I'm saying is it's abnormal for Harmonix to do custom things like that but they've been doing it a lot lately. Usually they just slap on the chart to the basic game but now they're getting creative for individual songs.

I'd consider picking up a couple U2 songs as DLC, but definitely not as a full disc release. Outside of The Beatles, there aren't many bands worth centering a game around... although Metallica was a pretty solid choice for Guitar Hero.

@Cellach: One only needs to look at how they are the only band outside of the Stones in this day and age which can still sell out multiple stadium dates in a city. Considering how fractured our musical tastes and culture in general has become in this age of hundreds of channels and the internet, thats amazing.

U2 was an amazing band in the 80's and early 90's.
They are now big enough to where the music is a secondary byproduct of the band with the primary product being charity work, Ipod commercials and general annoyance.

Fun fact: Miles Davis was listening to the Unforgettable Fire when he died.

Oh I know why some of you aren't listening to U2...

A. Because you're too busy hating your life.
B. Because you're too busy listening to Nickleback
C. Because you're too busy sexting eachother.
D. All of the above

When it comes to earth, you guys are in the minority here. They are up there with The Beatles and The Stones on a longevity, and world wide loved scale.

FYI, just because music isn't angry, whiny, or angst filled doesn't mean there shouldn't be a game of it. I'm not saying you have to love U2, but you do have to respect the fact they are making their music - Hansel

FACT: A U2 music game will outsell Van Halen, who I love by the way.

"U2 have released 12 studio albums, with worldwide sales totaling 145 million records, and they have won 22 Grammy Awards, more than any other band. In 2005, the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility. Rolling Stone magazine listed U2 at #22 in its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time"

Why such much hate for U2? Even if you don't like their music you can still respect how these guys really try to help people in a hands on manner, unlike other musicians who just have their record label throw money at people and then talk about what great people they are. Those of you who say all of U2's music sounds the same really have not listened to them. Also, their songs are very political, emotional and metaphysical. Quit hating things because they are "popular", U2 became popular because they earned it by making good music.

"You know that's pretty logical. Remember when they had the drummer rapping for Clint Eastwood? And they've been doing stuff like that a lot more recently. "

The last three albums have been a return to form, ranging from what they did in their early career up to Achtung Baby. They still weasel in some Lemon/POP experiementation into it, but its nothing like you're describing.

That aside, with this much U2 hatred going around, I'd hate to see what they thought good music was these days. I'd get a U2-style Rock Band in seconds of relese, personally. In fact, when I played a little of the Beatles demo kiosks, I thought of them amoung several other bands that could have a similarly rich career retrospective as a game.
