Two pedals, one Rock Band: new kick pedal ships with adaptor photo

Oh snap, Activision -- Harmonix are stealing your edge. Today, Harmonix and PDP (the guys behind the Xbox 360 motion controller) announced the retail release of a new kick pedal for Rock Band that comes packaged with a double bass adaptor for two-pedal play. And get this: it’s compatible with Guitar Hero: Metallica.

The suggested price of the two-piece set, "The Rock Band Kick Pedal With Double Bass Adaptor," is $24.99. In addition to working with Activision’s latest Guitar Hero iteration, the double bass action will translate to Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour. It’s also universally compatible with all console iterations of Rock Band.

This doesn’t seem like that bad of a deal, especially if you’re looking to pummel the bass like Lars and don’t feel like committing to yet another plastic drum set. What do you guys think? Are you metal enough to go out and buy this?

I'd like some Rock Band 2 instruments over here first.

So, can I use one GH:WT kick and one RB2 kick together? Cause I have the GHWT drumset, but like the RB2 pedals more.

That's not a bad price, I find myself probably getting one at one point. Mostly because getting a good score in almost any Disturbed song on expert drums in RB2 is a pain. There are other songs I have my attention on as well, but that group is my main focus.

I picked this up after my Frankenstein's monster of a repaired kick pedal finally died. I haven't had a chance to check out the splitter because I only have one pedal, but from reading the literature you apparently can't browse categories in the select song menu anymore, but that's about it. The pedal itself seems to be a RB1 drum with RB2's metal cover. Some of the parts seem smaller and the architecture and some small details are different. I've never owned a RB1 pedal, so I assume the smaller parts are from the RB1 pedal because some parts (spring and axle for example) are different. It could be a new design, it could be an old one. But one thing I know for sure, it's slightly different. The Metal Pedal is also out, just so you know.

This has actually been out for a couple weeks now.

I've got one, it's nice. However, it removes the ability for the drum set to identify sustained pedal presses, so you can't hold the pedal down anymore to bring up a list when browsing your songs. For example, without the adapter if you were sorting songs alphabetically you could hold down the pedal to bring up just a list of the alphabet, scroll down the much shorter list to the specific letter you want, then release the pedal to bring back the full list starting from that letter. With the adapter, it doesn't work because it doesn't see that you held the pedal, only that you pressed it. You can alternate pressing both pedals to scroll through the list about as fast but it's harder to tell where you at scrolling that way.

Regardless, great price for either a pedal replacement or second pedal. Worth the $25 to me, even though it's been extremely difficult getting used to 2 pedals, lol.

I already have one these. It's called a headphone splitter and they run like $3.

headphone splitter don't work.

1. you'd need a mono splitter to begin with
2. the way the circuit works, if you have one pedal down, the other one will be ignored, so playing proper foot-down won't work, and if you're trying to do fast double bass, it won't work at all.

Go ahead and try though.

There is a homebrew circuit you can wire up if you've got the electronics chops, but the adaptor that comes in this pack is a better option for most people.

Is it so hard to find the perfect drum set for my music simulation goodness?

Activision must be shitting rage now that kick pedal also works for Guitar Hero. Is Activision going to sit down and watch millions of dollars slip away, or are they going to have to break some knees?

I give it a few days until someone comes up with a homemade way to reproduce Harmonix's non-headphone splitter and prevent me from having to buy yet another pedal (official or custom), since I already have an Omega Pedal and the RB2 pedal.

This is awesome! I downloaded the All That Remains track pack and it is next to impossible to play things like "This Calling" (or any other metal song) with just one kick pedal. I'll definitely score one at some point.

Sweet deal. I think Gamestop's 'Free pedal with preorder' deal with Metalica GH was even sweeter....but if a lot of Rock Band players didn't know if that pedal worked with RB they might not have made the purchase.

I have a Yamaha DTXplorer electronic kit, I've seen people on ebay hool it up with RB....I'd like to try it someday.

If it works better then the adapter that came with the Metal Pedal (AKA, allows me to hold down one pedal while hitting the other), then I'm sold. Even though this would be like, my fourth pedal...
