This new Persona 4 footage shows us a bit more of what we’ve seen before. The new cast of characters (including that weird bear-thing which apparently has a pop-off head), some social interactions, new environments, the battle system, catchy tunes -- all in all, it’s looking a lot like Persona 3, which is certainly not a bad thing. Plus, one of the monsters they’re fighting looks like a giant robot from the early-to-mid ’90s. Sweet!

There’s a scene in the second trailer (viewable after the jump) that makes me wonder if the developers might have been watching a bit too much Death Note. Specifically, the spot at 0:53 that shows a hand quickly writing in a notebook, then a car spinning out of control, and then a guy with glowing eyes laughing maniacally. I really like Death Note, though, so any resemblance certainly doesn't bother me.

We also get to see a quick shot of series regular Igor, who will presumably be offering his Persona-fusing services once again. There’s also a guy that gets sucked up into his TV. I wonder if that might be the next realm the Shadows choose to inhabit.

Are you looking forward to Persona 4, or, like me, have you not yet gotten around to beating Persona 3?

My goal is to finish Persona 3 before Persona 4 comes out... I just have to buckle down and do it.

I don't think its meant to be a shout out if you will to Death Note, but the editing of it certainly makes it seem like it.

In Death Note related gaming news Obata is doing the character designs for that Castlevania fighting game, so there's a plus right there.

While Persona 3 was a delicious game in it's own right, I'd prefer if the next installment had more throwbacks to the mechanics of the previous Persona titles. I found the evokers interesting I guess at first, but personally hearing each character say "Persona!" in a ridiculous manner for each summon was definitely more entertaining. Also I want them to go back to anyone being able to equip persona based on compatibility to their personality and not having the non-main-characters tied to one particular persona the entire time.

Looks like I have wasted my summer so far by not playing Persona 3.

I really need to finish Persona 3. Work got in the way of me completing it, and I haven't jumped back in since. I'm definitely going to beat it during the summer, as it's too excellent not to.

Oh, and as a MegaTen lover, I am waiting with dire anticipation for Persona 4. Any MegaTen game is more than welcome.

I absolutely loved P3 --- Best RPG I've ever played. I'm excited for this, but it's gonna have to be epic to compare.

I'm currently running through The Answer. Thank god I work from home, I spent nearly 3 weeks on end playing it through, and just finished The Journey today.

I loved P3, though I'm obviously biased, it being perfect for me. As Kyle Orland of CrispyGamer noted, P3 is the best anime he ever "played" or the best game he ever "watched".

I thought: "Oh, you mean that shady looking guy at the beginning, right, well that's sort of a ripoff of Deathnote..."

And then I saw the writing in the notebook thing.

Looks like some people haven't been watching the REALLY new trailers.

It's been confirmed that there's no more evoker nonsense. The character summon personas the oldschool way, by crumbling Tarot cards. IT's also been confirmed that the dungeons this time are composed of "TV channels of the soul" or something similar, and that they do in fact enter the new 'Dark Realm' through TV's. That's also why all the new Personas are so flamboyant, and why a lot of the enemies look like old TV characters, they're Fighting in TV Land. This is also why the characters use flamboyant weapons like metal folding chairs, throwing knives, and bladed fans.

Also: Heavy Metal Rocker guy with the big metal Persona covered in skulls is confirmed for the Gay.

Goddamn P3 is long. I'm at 70 hours, and I'm only still in September.

I haven't gotten around to opening Persona 3 yet. The threat of 70 hour playtime has kept me away until I die and have enough free time.

I saw a screenshot with the shy glasses girl from P3 for this game.

If I can control my guys and no more huge random floor dungeon, I might actually like this game.
