Two new Chaos Rings titles on the way photo

As much as I've felt Square Enix has stagnated lately, I must say that Chaos Rings was a very nice game. Worked great on iOS devices, boasted simple but fun roleplaying gameplay, and kicked ass in the music department. It's good to know, then, that Square Enix is set on continuing the series.

Two new games are currently in development. The first is Chaos Rings Omega, set for iPhone. This is a prequel (what is it with this prequel obsession lately?) that's due to release in May, at least for Japanese customers.

The second game is Chaos Rings II, which is pretty self explanatory, really.

Sounds like fun to me. If Square Enix stopped making Final Fantasy games and just did these iPhone RPGs, I'd be quite fine with that.

Awesome, I bought chaos rings when it was on sale and had a lot of fun with it.

It was perfectly suited to mobile devices

and square has stagnated? really?

You havent been playing many square games lately then

Its short, the story is terrible, and the gameplay is weak. You get what you pay for.

but square has a good strategy. Put out the cheap games on the ios

and then put out there real games on dedicated systems.

The 3ds has kingdom hearts, Final fantasy, dragon quest already in development. And the psp............has so much

@Stealth
I would exactly call squate IOS games "cheap"

Chaos rings originally came out for 12.99 I believe.

I bought it on sale for 5.99. For that price I found it well worth the price. It was a good 6 hours of gameplay that I had lots of fun with.

Something doesn't need complicated gameplay to be fun

Stealth:

So far you've given me subjective reasons as to why you do not like the game. That is not shovelware. Shovelware refers to mass produced and mass ported games. Chaos Rings was a quality RPG that you, apparently, just didn't like.

I realize that "I thought Chaos Rings was shit" has less impact than calling it shovelware, but don't call it something that it wasn't in order to make a point.

As far as your opinion of Chaos Rings' quality is concerned, I can only respectfully disagree. I believe Square's mobile efforts have far outshined its console games recently.

Chaos Rings is only short if you only play through once with one party. There are four different pairings that can be used in the game in subsequent playthroughs. This not only extends the gameplay time, but also the story, adding new depth each time through.
I have to respectfully disagree with some of the comments on here. This game is definitely not cheap, short, or shovelware. I want Squeenix to keep making console RPGs as well, but this original IP is a fantastic fit for iOS and is quite robust. It suits the mobile iOS experience, and if you want c a console experience, stick to the consoles. Nothing wrong with that. There's no reason to hate on a game because it isn't your cup of tea.

but you didnt say that. You made a blanket statement about square

There dedicated portable games are the best things theyve been doing.

at least we can agree there console offerings have been sparce at best

I said I'd be cool with Square just doing iOS games, and I would. You then called Chaos Rings shovelware, which it isn't.

That is the conversation that happened.

I would definitely not be fine with that. Chaos Rings was fine for a mobile game, but I'd take 60+ hours in FFXIII over it any day.

What you said is all other square games are stagnant. And only ios games they do are good is what you basically said.

What you think I "basically" said is not what I said. What I said was that Square, as in the company, has stagnated recently, and that I would be fine if all they did from now on is make iOS games.

You shouldn't get angry over what you guess somebody meant.

Personally, i could never get into Chaos Rings. The characters didnt seem very fleshed out, but then again i dont think i got very far. The gameplay was fine, i enjoyed the system they used. Hopefully these will improve on the original.

Square's been stagnating mainly with their Final Fantasy games, but their Dragon Quests are still kicking ass. Also, I haven't seen too many good original titles from them lately that catch my eye.

More of Jim being a fool and promoting his of idiocy.

You see Jim, if you would just ignore their other games and let someone else review them from now on, then your dream world of SQEX IOS bliss would be a reality. But no, your goal is to constantly sour everyone's experience who loves their console, PSP and DS games until they stop making them so you can put up a Dr. Doom pic and proclaim that you're a genius. Go fuck yourself.

I wouldn't call it necessarily a prequel obsession here, it's just a story that requires whatever you want to call a prequel to explain the story further.
