Have you kept track of how many Wii games feature minimal combat and maximal flashlight? By my count, there are seven: LIT, Fragile, Fatal Frame 4, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, The Calling, and Ju-On: The Grudge. That doesn't even count games like Spyborgs and Super Paper Mario that make use of flashlight stuff for less-than-spooky purposes. Makes you wonder if "flashlight!" will someday replace "waggle!" as the standard anti-Wii propaganda battle-cry.
OK, back to the news; turn off the lights and set that youtube to fullscreen, then tell me if this video doesn't give you the gibblies. Honestly, I started to have doubts about Ju-On: The Grudge ever since XSEED started pushing the whole "haunted house simulator" thing. After watching this video, I'm back to wanting this game 100%.
Ju-On: The Grudge comes out in just a few days, so pre-order this sucker now if you're at all interested. This isn't the type of game that Gamestops and Best Buys tend to stock up on.

Holy mother fuck, that is creepy. That actually looks pretty fun... for a Wii game. Whoever is walking sounds like they're wearing wooden shoes, though. This game has now officially caught my attention.
OH JESUS NO. I knew there was going to be something scary behind one of those doors but IT DIDN'T MAKE IT ANY LESS CREEPY AMAGAD
That being said, the zoom-in on the girl's face and the dramatic music for every door opening kinda detract from the mystery value, but I don't think it makes too much of a difference. I'm more than a little interested in this now.
Well, aside from the loud clacking of shoes hitting fhe floor, it was pretty spooky. I thought the hand was going to pop out one of the earlier doors, but it still some how managed to make an appearance.
So maybe i should explain the premise of this game.
It's a haunted house sim that judges your score based on the wii-motes jitterness during scare scenes. So you go through the mansion looking for clues etc. to get out of the house but you have to keep your hands steady to get a good score. Cool, huh?
@Teta
I am in the same boat. A lot of people didnt get scared during The Grudge, but I was on a date... Terrible idea. I spent the whole time with my face in my hands peeking through my fingers. Sufficed to say, my lady friend was not impressed
Man this is a great game to play on a date, unless you are a girl dating some anti-wii-ps3/360-fanboi, in which case just play a shooting game with lots of cursing and man-buddy-loving, sad, See two can play at that game suckars!
Well remember too.. I'm assuming this is based off of the Japanese "The Grudge" based on the fact that they call it "Ju-on", and not the American "The Grudge" with Sarah Michelle Geller.
I've actually never seen either movie, but just thought I'd throw that out there.
I made the poor decision of turning off itunes to watch that trailer, and about jumped through the roof / shat myself when whatever it was started banging on the whatever the other thing was.
It looks a little monotonous. I watched a 10 minute gameplay video and it was all, open the door, see something creepy, walk over to where the creepy stuff happened, and then one of two things would happen, a. something more creepy would happen, or b. nothing would happen. Even if something more creepy happens, there is a chance that you might miss it because you weren't shining a light on it. Also it seems to be playing off of the misused scare tactics that the American movie yanked from the original Japanese piece. I think Juon had some potential, if only the budget had been bigger, but the remake was terrible because apparently whoever adapted the screenplay doubted America's ability to understand the concept of a haunted house, so they threw Sarah Michelle Gellar in there to unite the multiple tragedies that occurred in the house. You cannot just throw a creepy cat kid in there and expect people to take it seriously, there needs to be some context to it, which the American movie lacked, and since the game seems to be based off of the American movie I can only assume that the game will lack the same context. In addition I think the novelty of walking around with a flash light in dark places would grow tiresome. Plus they used hair coming out from under a door as a way of telling you to go into a room. I'm sorry but if I see a mass of black hair sitting out in a hallway disappear suddenly under a door I'm not going in there, everyone knows nothing good will come out of entering that room. Yet the developers force the player to do it in order to progress. Ridiculous.
@PoopShooter
Very. Hopefully it's good on the thrills than. Maybe more scary moments during gameplay and not so much on the little door opening actions.
I thought pretty much exactly the same as Genofa Se. Those two minutes were alright but try watching a few of the other videos and you'll probably be groaning too.

that's my problem right there, SIM, why are most Wii games either a insert-word-here Sim, on-rail shooters or otherwise uninspired crap? i don't remember a decent, gameplay full Wii game since Little King's Story. Hell, i could pass the graphics if it had some decent gameplay away from the usual overdone, repetitive and uninspired shit lately. Does anyone remember Eternal Darkness on GC last gen? the graphics weren't anything great, even by last gen standards but the gameplay,creativity and care put into that game was so off the charts awesome it beats the living crap out of most games in this gen.
Looks terrible. It's obvious that every door is a loading screen. Every surface appears flat and almost without texture. Looks like a PS2 game with all that's going on. At least Doom 3 and Condemned: Criminal Origins from 4 or 5 years ago looked and played better. This is where graphics and processing power matter. The atmosphere just isn't there and neither is the gameplay to back it up.

As for the shoe clacking I thought it actually helped builds anticipation at first but by the end of the video it was just weird and distracting.
Also I don't know what is up with the recent resurgence in YouTube videos on this blog but this mobile user is greatly appreciating it!
I'll wait for reviews to come in before throwing my money at at.
Silent Hill:SM is the only horror game this year that I'm excited for.
*throws wiimote at screen
die!
Technically yes. But don't say I told you so.
Why am I such a girl.

Granted this is the first time I've seen it.
I can imagine that the 'open door sequence' would get annoying if it is the same throughout the whole game.
Those repetitive sound effects were killing me, but the ending scared the crap out of me. So, mission accomplished Ju-on. I'm kinda interested!

GameFly. For sure... It's being sent now and perfect timing for some Halloween scares with a few friends! =O
