Two Texas-based gamers thought they were going to GameStop to get some new games, but all they got was a gun in their faces. They just happened to pick the worst time to stop by their local game store.
A Dallas/Ft. Worth CBS affiliate brings us this
horribly written report (and video) on a GameStop robbery in Arlington, Texas. Surveillance video shows one robber entering the store with his gun drawn, and the store clerk heads to the back room as ordered. Another robber digs around for a shopping bag to nab consoles (or, as the article says, 'high-end video equipment'), and not money. These guys know their stuff! They must know that the value of a couple of arm-loads of PS3s and Xbox 360s will far outweigh that of whatever cash is in the register.
One of the boys enters the store and is forced to the ground by the gunman. The other boy follows suit and hits the floor. As the robbers leave, they pass a woman entering the store who may be the boys' guardian. She promptly makes a phone call.
"It's certainly concerning to us when someone walks in, in broad daylight, armed with a weapon, forcing customers to the ground," said Christy Gilford, Arlington Police Department. "That's exactly why we are releasing this information."
Authorities have already captured one robber, but are still looking for the other. Anyone with information about the robbery or the second suspect is asked to contact Arlington police.
It took all the restraint I have not to use Chad Warren's likeness in this post.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
That's so 8 months ago.
I believe the line would be:
"In Soviet Russia, Gamestop ROBS YOU!"
Of course Gamestop robs us everyday, taking food and water out of our childrens mouths. But thats neither here or there.
A couple of years ago I was robbed at gunpoint in front of a movie theater. I don't want to go into everything that happened here, but it was a nasty and unpleasant experience. After I had filled out the police reports I immediately went home to decompress and wind down a little.
I called my girlfriend on the phone, but I didn't want to tell her until we were in person so that she wouldn't get too worried.
I was pretty shaken up at the idea of almost dying and I didn't know what to do with myself. So, and I'm pretty sure Chad Concelmo would be feeling me on this, I fired up the old SNES and played about three hours straight of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. It was like a warm hug from a friend, while I was waiting for some real human interaction. It was one of those few moments where I saw video games as more than a hobby. It totally calmed me down and made me feel at peace with everything that happened.
So wait a minute . . . video games can actually combat the trauma of violence? I'm confused here. I thought they were supposed to turn me into a maniac.
*waves hands* Thats my baby!
:)
But seriously though, there's something wrong with the kids' families.

Chadwarden should come to Memphis and try his luck on that car....see how long he has it. That kid is about as ghetto as the suburbian home he lives in.

"BBQ SO GEWD IT Haxx0r UR m0m"
heh 'tis true!
"crap EXACTLY like this is on the evening news about once a month so this doesn't suprise my face off"
Only "once a month" here in Memphis? Turn on your TV more often. heh
Scary.
But, yeah, people try to rob Gamestop all the time so I don't see how this is big news.
Blah. Knew the guys. =\
