Twisted Metal is not confirmed, but could be a reboot photo

A new Twisted Metal has been rumored forever now, and hinted at and kind of directly referred to by David Jaffe himself. It's one of those terribly, terribly kept secrets and Jaffe is probably the biggest culprit in hinting at the game. As we know, he likes to talk. Speaking of Jaffe talking and letting info about Twisted Metal slip, here he is entirely not confirming and not describing what the next Twisted Metal game is not going to be about.

"Just to be clear, I've never said we were or were NOT making a new Twisted Metal. Ever," he states on his blog. "But just to be 100% clear, if we were to make a new Twisted, I would consider it a reboot. The last console Twisted was 10 years ago. If we were to make a new one, we'd be starting with the assumption that no one knows what Twisted Metal is anymore and we'd have to re-earn each and every fan the series ever had. So in that sense, IF we were to ever make a new one, we'd consider it a brand new series/game/franchise."

So just to be really, really, really clear, Jaffe has confirmed the new Twisted Metal and it's going to be a reboot. But to be really, really, really, really, really clear, he hasn't confirmed any of that.

[Thanks, Brett C.]

I thought they were doing a MMO type of Twisted Metal game next? That's how I understood it. MAG meets car combat like game.

I only played Twisted Metal a few times but we could really use some car combat right about now. I'd prefer a new Vigilante 8 or even more greatly, a new San Fransisco Rush 2049. But that's only because I played the hell out of those two games on my Dreamcast.

Twisted Metal on anything but a Sony console just sounds so vulgar..

I own all the consoles and buy mostly 360, but TM IS Sony in my eyes.

It will be a sony exclusive because (if memory serves me right) they signed a deal with Sony that there first 3 games are exclusive to PS. Anyways I also think Twisted Metal franchise is owned by Sony. I really hope to god some news of this game comes out, Ive been waiting far too long for a new Twisted Metal game this gen. There's no fucking car combat games this generation, its terrible!

If it is a PS3 exclusive then at least that would guarantee them three scoops of hype and a glowing review from this site.

Jaffe's said many times he's in a 3 game exclusive contract with Sony. That first one might have been Twisted Metal: Hands on, or it could have been Calling All Cars, or it could be his new project. Either way, whatever he's working on now is contractually exclusive to Sony.

He's also stated that his goal is to sell the studio to Sony and work under the umbrella. He wants to be the next Naughty Dog. And all the power to him. Don't hold your breath for an Eat Sleep Play game on anything but Sony for the foreseeable future.

@Crawdad,

Out of the three most recent console exclusive reviews on this site (MAG: 8, Mass Effect 2: 10, No More Heroes 2: 9.5), MAG got the lowest score by over a point.

Hell, InFamouos got a 6.5 average here!

Get your head out of your ass and take your retarded DToid conspiracy theories elsewhere.

All long as it has firing cars, specials, boosters, button-command powers, interactive backgrounds, ramps, heavy metal, CG endings, Calypso, and Sweettooth I'm happy.

Can't wait. The Vigilante 8: Second Offense XBLA game only made my thirst for car combat games stronger. PS3 exclusive or not, the world NEEDS a new Twisted Metal.

You'll never be able to convince some people. There are still some who honestly pray to kojima every night that MGS4 will be coming to the 360! I just like to let them dream sometimes.

I'm just saying that it doesn't matter if you're a hopeful fanboy or not, we NEED a new Twisted Metal.

What are you guys arguing for? Google "Twisted Metal" and go to the official website (part of the Playstation website) and you'll see this

"Twisted Metal is a registered trademark and Twisted Metal: Head-On is a trademark of Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. © 2005 Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc."

It not going to any other platform than the PS3
Not only that but Eat Sleep Play (Jaffe company) has a 3 exclusive games contract with Sony and it not a rumor, it stated on Eat Sleep Play website

IMO Twisted Metal 2 on the PS1 was the pinnacle of the series so far, but Black on the PS2 wasn't bad either. I just never cared for 3 on the PS1 but the others I've all liked. Twisted Metal 2 is available on the Playstation store to buy as well.

I hope it's not a complete reboot in the sense of replacing some of the characters. Cause I liked a lot of them. I enjoyed Twisted Metal Black a lot, I think it could be a really awesome game if it were done right.

Well, the "cars with guns" genre is rather lacking at the moment...

I think I liked Vigilante 8 more. But whatever.

I hate reboots. If they want to reintroduce all the characters for new players, that's fine, but keep it in-continuity with the previous games.

I hope they include the custom car creator like in TM4, but obviously greatly improved, it would be cool to see what cars people make online. :D

so a new game but using ALL the characters/levels?

also i hope you can get out of your car now. maybe certain areas block cars. like going into buildings. you can take other peoples cars. or you can get out on the battle field(not smart)

also it would be online with ALL the players being the different drivers. and before you play online you choose who you want to be and it finds a game where that char hasnt been picked yet. that way you can be who you want with no one snagging your guy.

Of course it has to be a reboot. The plot in Twisted Metal is obviously the most important aspect and the reason why people play the Twisted Metal games in the first place. Anyone who hasn't played the previous games is going to be completely lost and have no idea what's going on. "Wait... I'm supposed to be killing these other cars that are trying to kill me? That doesn't make any sense. If only I knew what great plot twist in the previous games led to this I could maybe understand this bizarre concept."

By the way, isn't every Twisted Metal a reboot, since they're all basically the same game?

Funny to see that if an old Sony franchise gets a reboot everybody talks about exclusivity. I've never played Twisted Metal but I'm curious to see what all the fuss is about.

Sony owns the Twisted Metal franchise, so it's going absolutely nowhere.

I spent countless hours of my youth playing the first one on PS1.

I cannot fucking wait for this game.
