Twenty free Rock Band 2 tracks listed, dated for early November photo
     Freebies

Remember the code on the back of your Rock Band 2 instruction manual that you'll eventually be able to use to obtain another code which will grant you access to 20 free bonus songs? Well, we now know what those tracks are and when they'll be available.

First off, the 20 RB2 tracks will be available on Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network starting November 4, with the songs for the Wii version being held off until December. Without further adieu, here are the freebies:

  • The 88 - "Sons and Daughters"
  • Authority Zero - "No Regrets"
  • Between the Buried and Me - "Prequel To The Sequel"
  • The Cab - "Bounce"
  • The Chevelles - "Get It On"
  • The Cocktail Slippers - "Give It To Me"
  • Dealership - "Database Corrupted"
  • Endeverafter - "I Wanna Be Your Man"
  • The Ghost Hounds - "Ashes To Fire"
  • Hollywood Undead - "Young"
  • Kutless - "The Feeling"
  • The Len Price 3 - "If I Ain't Got You"
  • Lesley Roy - "I'm Gone, I'm Going"
  • Opiate for the Masses - "Burn You Down"
  • Semi-Precious Weapons - "Magnetic Baby"
  • Shaimus - "Like a Fool"
  • Thenewno2" - Crazy Tuesday"
  • Tickle Me Pink - "The Time Is Wrong"
  • Underoath - "Desperate Times, Desperate Measures"
  • X Japan - "I.V."
Sadly (and not shockingly), these tracks don't match the quality of the superb disc-based songs Rock Band 2 owners have grown to love. However, it should go without saying that free is free, and it's a nice gesture from Harmonix regardless.

Wow, holy crap. I almost decided to go with Rock Band 2 because of the free tracks. Glad I didn't. Well, I'm getting GH:WT for sure.

"Between the Buried and Me - 'Prequel To The Sequel'"

WHOA! That was unexpected. This'll be good.

How do you know these tracks aren't of comparable quality? It sounds like they are the bonus tracks from the other games where it's smaller and lesser known artists. And compared to some of the crappy well known songs on the main list, I rather liked a lot of the bonus tracks back in the GH days. I can't speak for these, but I don't think it's fair to dis them straight off.

I just found that one of the Dealership's members is Jane Pinckard formerly of 1up. WOW.

The only thing I'm looking forward to is Between the Buried and Me. Who knows what the rest sound like.

I guess I'm disappointed. Those fake lists made me excited for the bonus tracks, but free is free?

Bah!

Crap???? Whaaaaaaaaaaat?! You guys have problems.

I don't know the other bands but just having a Between the Buried and Me song and an X Japan song for free is amazing. And I don't even have Rock Band 2, but now I want it even more.

Guys, guys, your forgetting the most part. The point is that technically these songs aren't free, they were going to be included on the disc, Harmonix just didn't have time to get them on there. So, having said that, I expected them to be a bit better. Disappointed Coonskin05 is disappointed.

I probably won't play many of these songs twice.

I'm with Coonskin. The free aspect is shoved out there so easily. This was stuff we were gonna get on the disc at one point. There's already a good 10 songs on the disc of stuff I don't care for/never heard of. This is just piling on.

Just as I suspected, a lot of lame bands that no one's ever heard of. I only recognize three band names, and I've only heard the music of one of them. Free is free, but this is bleh.

I've been listening to the songs and some are kinda lame, but for the most part they're pretty good.

I really happened to like Dealership, which as mentioned above, includes Jane Pinckard from 1up.

I can't believe people were seriously expecting big-name bands. Only band I've heard of from that list is Underoath and I don't really like them that much. Oh well, 20 songs is 20 songs.

awesome choice in band, but I would have sure liked to see something like all bodies or sun of nothing. Prequel to sequel is a fantastic song though...just more BTBAM in general really.

cant wait to see some renditions of the piratey vocals in the middle of the song..thats gunna be great.

I Was Really Looking Forward To This And A Bunch Of Unknown Second Class Garbage Is Not What I Was Expecting! Screw You Rock Band 2.... Almost As Big Of A Let Down As That Lame "big Announcement" That Turned Out To Be Nothing More Than Unknown Garbage Songs For Charity....stuff Like This Gives Gh4 A Real Chance To Make Happy Dissapointed Players.....4 Days And Counting Mother Chuckers!!!

Never heard of any of them, but I've downloaded songs from a ton of bands I'd never heard of and I loved them. I'll be cautiously optimistic that I'll like at least half of them.

If I like 10 of the 20, it's a definite win. Any less is a minor disappointment, any more is just awesome.

If someone can find me all these tracks, I'll listen to each one of them. I guarantee you that I will hate a minimum of three-quarters of them. I also guarantee you that at least half of them will be generic, soulless pop crap.

And in case this goes any further, let me nip this in the bud: Yes, I'm an indiefag, and yes, I'm a musical prick. Okay. Moving on. :)

Having listened to some of the songs, I am actually very pleased with Harmonix's decision. One of my favorite things about Rock Band is discovering bands both mainstream and unknown that I'd never heard before, and this is certainly accomplishing that.

And it seems to be quality stuff to boot. I haven't listened to everything but everything I've listened to is good.

I've only ever heard of X Japan, Underoath, The Cab, and Thenewno2 (the latter just because of a previous DLC song), so I don't see anything I could quickly identify as possibly awesome, but here's hoping some of them are good. It just means I'll have to learn the songs, then sing them myself a few times with my friends until they become familiar enough with them.

ATTN: People who are getting Guitar Hero 4 because of this:

Are you morons? There was enough reason to get RB2 over GH4 before this, and even if you've never heard of these people, it's twenty free songs. Quit your whining.

P.S. Guitar Hero is shit.

WTF? Don't MTV and Harmonix realize that no one likes singing songs they don't know the lyrics to?

Why would they go and pick 20 unknown songs from just as many unknown bands?

Lame As Fuck!

I'll check out the links and get back to you in the comments. I actually own Chevelle's first album, but I'm not really into heavier stuff. My favorite artists are Paul Simon, David Byrne, Bruce Springsteen, and Wilco, if that gives you a clue... :)

@Coldbrand
I, for one, never said exactly that. My problem with them is that I hate the current state of mainstream music. I hate the pop-punk/pop-rock and "hard rock" trash that populates the airwaves. It's all repetitive, unimaginative garbage, and that's what a lot of these games tend to use as filler. And this is filler. Thus...

Is everyone complaining so incredibly dense that they don't understand these are the type of BONUS songs that have been included with every Guitar Hero game and Rock Band. They are included to actually introduce people to cool songs you've never heard of. I haven't heard of a single one of these 20, but I can't wait to try them out, cuz almost all the previous game bonus songs have been awesome.

It's The Chevelles, it is not the one you are thinking of.

But, definitely, check out thenewno2, George Harrison's son , Dhani is there lead singer
