Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

I was the biggest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fanboy growing up. I had the toys, bedsheets, clothes, underwear -- basically, if the product had the TMNT logo on it, I had it.

Over the last few years, 4Kids Entertainment has been pumping new life into the TMNT franchise. For the most part, the results have been garbage. The animated movie wasn't that great and the cartoon that's running right now is horrible. So I'm not really holding my breath for the remake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time.

Oh, yes! Turtles in Time is getting a remake! We heard awhile ago through the grapevine that Ubisoft is publishing the remake, so it's about time we saw what the game looks like. The video (after the jump) and pictures comes to us from the Tribeca Film Festival that took place in New York City recently. All we know so far is that it's on XBLA, and that they're staying close to the source material as Shredder looks exactly as he should.

So who's looking forward to kicking shell with the worlds most fearsome fighting teens?

[Thanks, Buster and Andrew]

[Update: TMNT fan blog "Ninja Pizza" has some more details, including a possible Virtual Console release of the title.]

Hmm. This is the best Turtle game ever, and I'm glad to see it coming back. I would have preferred an SF2 HD Remix-style remake though, instead of going the Bionic Commando route. I'm not really digging the new style.

I really want them to make a Turtles game in the gritty style of the original comic. That's the only way to truly do them justice.

With any luck they'll include the original version as well. The only thing that could complicate things so that they can't include it is red tape over the original being developed by Konami and Ubisoft currently owning the game rights (not unlike what keeps Goldeneye from being released on XBLA or the VC), but they managed to work through that to release the original arcade game, so I don't think that would be that much of an issue.

The bigger question, I think, is whether they're basing this remake on the arcade version of Turtles in Time (which had better animation and sound) or the SNES home version (which had more levels)

What's this? One of my favorite SNES games of all time is getting re-made on XBLA? Nice.

I hope there's an option to use the original music, or at least a very, very well done remix.

The TMNT style pretty much has to stick to the 80's and early 90's. All attempts to "coolify" them for kids these days is rape-tastic.

Tokka and Rahzar in Skull & Crossbones means it's probably based on the Arcade version. Not as awesome.

Hamza, they aren't "replacing" anything that wasn't replaced before. They must be basing this off of the Arcade version, and not the SNES verion. In the arcade, Tokka and Rahzar were the bosses of the pirate ship level, not Rocksteady and Bebop. So technically they aren't changing anything, just changing it back from the SNES port.

@Chronic Logic: Now now, the 2003 cartoon was mostly based on the original comic. Except for the whole shredder alien thing. And when they fucked it up to send them to the future. Still, it started out nice.

Must...not...fap.

Seriously, though. The SNES version is one of my favorite games of all time, and I treasure my cartridge like it is my spawn. As long as this game is a straight forward remake, I will need new pants. Bonus points if it includes the original as an unlockable.

The only thing that ever makes me regret not owning a 360 is XBLA. It seems like XBLA gets everything, and PSN and WiiWare get nothing.
