Consider it a nice calling out. A polite one. Still, Gran Turismo 5 was called out by Turn 10's Dan Greenawalt.
"I've got huge respect for Yamauchi and what the Polyphony Digital team does, they're a great developer. But do I personally feel confident that it would be difficult for any other racing game to do this," Greenawalt told CVG, speaking on Forza Motorsport 3.
"Gran Turismo is a great game and when it comes out I'll play it. But I think that without the partnerships and without the commitment, it will be very difficult for another team to replicate what we've done."
The "this" Greenawalt is speaking on is the graphics and physics in Forza 3. He says that the game physics run at 360Hz. That's a good thing, I guess. He also says that it looks better than Forza 2, but the physics is where it stands out.
"We still prioritise physics first, not graphics first. That is one of the differences."
Despite the lack of humility, I think Greenawalt is on to something. I need to play a bit more of GT5 to call it, but I think that Forza 3 has superior...everything so far. I've been spending quality time with review code and have basically fallen in love. Forza 3 is f*cking fantastic.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Greenawalt has no idea what GT5 may turn into... and by the sounds of things the demos shown at GamesCom and TGS were older builds.

Quality journalism.
Go play Lotus on an Amiga... Not much reality there...
Joke's already been made...
Lol @ mindless idiots underestimating Forza 3.
Oct. 27th, CAN'T FUCKING WAIT!
Oh and dale, f*cking fantastic piece of journalism..
Hah! If a $40 demo in the same timeframe as two awesome Forza games is how P.D. lets their games talk, then I don't wanna listen.
If you fanboy's had the slightest clue of the GT5 featureset... lmao. Real time deformation, weather and day/night cycles, full NASCAR and WRC license, 1000 cars... yea... keep dreaming.
You'll see. I'm coming back to this thread, I swear it.. and a massive call-out will be in order.

So here is my completely useless point (as i havent played either) If forza cant add a little more life to their racer then it will die in comparison to GT5. Maybe sales will be better because there are more 360s out there. But in comparison game wise. Forza just felt lame. GT, even when not in a really fast car was still uber, and as I said, I HATE realistic racers.
Also, I see no problem with Turn 10 saying this. A bit of rivalry is great for developers.
What does Greenawalt mean by having 'partnerships' and 'commitment', what did they have that was so special?
The thing about Forza 3, based on the demo I played was that the cars have a specific weight to them, something that GT has yet to implement.
Though, you gotta hand it to the guys at Polyphony, they managed to get something resembling a damage modeling system down since GT5 Prologue came out.
/ha
They need a powerup you can use when you're in last place, that turns you into a giant bullet and automatically sends you to the front, so people like WormFOODx can play it and still have fun.
I hope you get you Anti-Fanboy Suit™ because shit is going to rain all over you when you release that FM3 review.
Honest opinion > "journalism"
Dale's played demos for both and shared his opinion. That's his job.
I've played GTHD and it had that magical GT feel to it. I can't believe GT5 would be missing that, BUT Forza3 seemed to take the feeling of car-in-contact-with-road that little bit further. It's a top game judging from the demo, and I find it hard to believe GT5 will be better, though it should be very close.
Judging Forza3 on what Forza2 was is only the picture, as it judging what GT5 will be like based on track record, GTHD or GT5P. It's not over yet, but Dale was purely giving his opinion on what he'd seen so far, as a gamer. You can't refute it and you can't argue with it. It's opinion. It's subjective. Your own subjections may well be different. So what? Live with it.
I'll still buy it but for cheap. F2 burnt me out. I'm ready for GT5 but I want to race now.
But no matter what, GT fanboys will refuse to play Forza and insist their game is superior.
Kaz has mentioned the following in various interviews: Real-time deformation, Day/night races, weather, improved physics.
