Those who update their PlayStation Portable to the newest firmware are in for a surprise. Wait, wait -- I might be overselling this. The update adds two new game folders to the handheld: "NEOGEO" and "PCEngine" (aka TurboGrafx 16).
So, really, the surprise is (hopefully) the promise of more retro titles for PSP, which we could always use more of. Or, it's a cruel mistake. I'm going with the former, because A) Neo Geo and TruboGrafx 16 games are on the Japanese PlayStation Network and B) the ESRB has listed some of these ports for the US.
My guess is this stuff has been held back by licensing until now; at least, I hope so. Sony has got to know many of us would gladly buy these games, right?
NEOGEO for PSP? [Fist Full of Potions]
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied:
"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Give me Twinkle Statr Sprites and Gamshara and I will give you whatever moneys you want.
It'll be a trickle.
But eh, good for Sony. We'll see if we have any decent games around this time next year >_>.
Yeah, I know. I'd love it for just once for a platform holder that starts mining these huge collections of old content to do it right, and put ton of good games out at once.
The trickle method really doesn't seem to have much in terms of factual support. Like Microsoft's Game Room, which I think the team behind that has already been fired. I sure as hell don't pay attention to Virtual Console anymore, and I don't think many other people do like they used to.
Does somebody how to keep this folder setting permanently? When I turn off my PSP it always switches back to default setting the next time.
On Topic: About time, Sony! Really looking forward to Metal Slug and SNK vs. Capcom (hopefully :/)
Right, SO smart. Buying useless crap that has less features and is way too expensive. So that the devs and Sony can make another PSP that's just as useless and even more of a ripoff to the consumer? No. The only way companies get the fact that their hardware sucks is when it's not selling.
If you put GAROU: Mark Of The Wolves on PS3 with a remote play option, then yes, I will finally buy your goddamned PSP. That's a promise.
Love,
E.L.
Case in point: I remember when MOTW came out on NG cart...for $450. One game. Four-hundred-and-fucking-fifty-dollars.
That's why I can understand piracy, at least on some level. Ripping off a $60 title is asinine, but half a grand for one game seems like a reasonable time to expect someone to steal it. Granted, the developer won't make hardly anything in the first place, as their main source of revenue came from arcade play and not the home market - but the price barrier pretty much locked that scenario into place a long time before piracy became so prevalent.
OH MY GOD!
MAKE IT HAPPEN.
I maintain my opinion that these three videogames' companies from nowadays are far more evil than Sega itself.
PS: Yes, a hacked firmware is needed to play pirated PSP games.
War vs Piracy won.
Actually the most desired feature is playing backups of psp and ps1 games. Emulators are a close second.
