Tuesday Game Debate:
Wii vs PS3 Battle to the Death! photo

It isn't long at all until the epic next generation launch finally comes to a close, as the PS3 and the Wii join 360 in the future of gaming. Nintendo and Sony have been responsible for countless flamewars in the past month, if not 4 years. So this week we're gonna grab our gonads, lay down our opinions, and have them cast in metastone once and for all: If you could have a PS3 or Wii RIGHT NOW, plus one of any of their launch games, which system and which game would you want?

We welcome all flamewars -- feel free to go to great lengths to argue against one another futilely while you wait the extra few days until the PS3 and Wii launch, but after this week's game debate, let's just all game in peace and STFUAJPG happily ever after.

In 6 months from now we'll dig up this article and point and laugh at take a look at everyone's opinions and see if they've changed at all. Cast your votes, give a short reasoning, get your launch friends to vote too, and check back in 7 days for the winner.

Here's the results of last week's game debate:

Guitar Hero II: 18 votes

Gears of War: 22 votes

Not even a close call for me: Wii + Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Can't wait to see what you guys choose

Let me just put my fireprood vest on first.

The PS3 is my favourite out of those 2. While the Wii is obviously showing lots of great gameplay from the launch, it will be just a matter of time before the full power of the PS3 can be utilized along with good games too.

EDIT: Eek, forgot a game. Resistance is obviously the flagship of PS3's launch. That is the one I think will do best.

Wii and Gunstar Heroes.

Not like I could afford a PS3 at the momment anyway, but even if I could, the only game that I would want is Resistance. Not worth it considering it looks good, but definitely not a killer app to justify $700

Wii and Zelda, without even having to think twice. The PS3 is just too expensive, and after finally playing it, I was unimpressed. If I wanted a high-graphics console and a killer app like that, I'd go for a 360 and Gears of War.

Wii all the way for me. I get bored easy, and I've been dying to see something different. Nintendo just gave me exactly what I needed. The only time the big N let me down was with the GCN, because of how they managed to lose all third-party support.

Definitely Wii...hands down. I had money saved up for this for many many many months!!!

Games: as cliche as it will be...Twilight Princess (I didn't like Ocarina of Time, but I thought I'd give this one a chance). 2nd pick is ExciteTruck and I am going to pick up Red Steel tomorrow O:-)

(PS: Don't mind those p breaks...just seeing if they handle simple html in comments.)

Ishaan..part of the thing with the 3rd party support for the GameCube is cause Micro$oft paid companies money NOT to develop for them. They were going to get exclusive rights to Madden but then Madden got rights to NFL and they said they would only allow that if it was on ALL platforms.

If i could have one right now, i'd pick a PS3, sell it on ebay, and buy a wii with every launch title, and wiimotes for every one of my friends with the cash.

Then i'd get a PS3 in a year with what's left.

Which would I want right now? I'd probably go with PS3, because I can always get a Wii later. I'd love to play Resistance and all, and I honestly want Sony to succeed.

Right now? Depends -- do I get to sell it? =)

Wii. And Excite Truck. Sony needs to get taken down a peg or two.

Wii and Zelda. The PS3 will be worth the money in four years when all the AAA titles are greatest hits and they're pushing the PS3 to it's absolute technical limits.

But I want to have fun, and have it now. Wii please

Wii and (just to be different and I don't have the time to really play TP for another month even though I'm getting it) Metal Slug Anthology.

The PS3 in one word: meh.

To me the PS3 launch looks a lot like the 360 launch. A lot of last gen ports given a once over in HD. It's good and all, but hardly the great doombringer of Next-Gen we were promised at E3. Give it a year or so and it'll do well. I would expect that the PS3 will eventually sell fairly well, but that'll come at two different times. When HD adoption goes full force in 3 years, thanks to the FCC, and when the bastard of a Quesadilla maker sells for less than $300 for the 60GB.

Seems to be the popular choice so far, but there's a reason for it. So, I'm going with Wii and Legend of Zelda: TP. I'd like a PS3 eventually (mainly because I'm an admited Final Fantasy whore, which is a series that would sell any system to me), but right now I don't see anything on interest on the PS3 now or in the immediate future. I havn't had a Nintendo system in quite a long time now (never picked up Gamecube) and Nintendo has managed to lure me in with the WiiMote. I've also not been a fan of 3D Zelda games in the past (I've said it before that I hated Ocarina), but what I've seen of the game in the past few months has convinced me that it will be a must have purchase.

you know, this really isnt a fair battle, because the two are so different, they beat each other out in almost every category.im getting a ps3 however it was a close battle.I am simply afraid the wii just wont have enough in it for me. i have a psp and hardly ever play games on it and it is still my favorite thing in the whole world(ds really really sucks btw fucking 12 year olds....)and i just dont think the wii is moving in that multimedia direction. this business has the potential to take over all entertainment, and i think both consoles are doing that in different ways. but, the ps3 is doing it in my favorite way.fast.and on another note, the 360 is doing nothing for advancement, so that didnt even get my consideration.

MS payed people off to not develop for them? Bastards. Seriously, though ... I liked the GameCube despite the lack of developer support. At least Nintendo's first-part franchises gave it a good library of games. Add Resident Evil 4 and Extreme-G 3 to the mix, and it wasn't so bad, after all. Frankly, I don't give a hoot about how powerful PS3 and the 360 are ... Nintendo's changing the market, and the way we play games just as they always have, and I'll always admire them for that. It takes balls to bring about a change ... balls they've had since 1985.

I played some Wii games in my dream last night. I don't remember if it was any actual games, I just remember struggling to use the remote... but we all know that won't happen in real life
Wii, Zelda.

Wii hands down. I've been playing "hi def" on my PC for years, why would I want to give Sony £600 to put it in my living room too?

As for titles my 5 year old daughter will love Wii Play, and I suspect I will too. If I could only choose one launch title it'd be Super Monkey Ball (Ready... GO!) but I'll also be getting Zelda on launch day like the consumer sheep I am. Oh and because it looks rocktastic too (keep those videos coming).

No contest. PS3. I can afford a Wii by myself, that way I can have them both! Ha! in your face!--------------------

Seriously though.. Hmm a PS3 is tempting, But I think If I had to choose right NOW between them both, I would choose to play the Wii. Zelda looks awesome, and I could play Wii sports with the Mrs. (Oh crap I would need to buy another controller then)

Speaking as someone who's already played both systems, I unequivocably say Wii + Zelda for me. Resistance looks great, but doesn't play any different that the rest of the millions of FPSes out there. Definitely Wii for me and my Mii.

Wii + Zelda. Even with cost out of the equation, the Wii wins. The only two titles on the PS3 that are remotely interesting are RR7 and Resistance. Given that Resistance is getting lukewarm reception so far (it's no Ratchet & Clank, and it's no Gears of War), and that RR7 looks worse than last year's RR6 on the 360, there's no compelling reason to have a PS3 yet.

Wii. I love Zelda, but I am more excited for Wii Sports [oddly] and Elebits because I am most curious about the new controler possibilities.

I don't have an HDTV and I enjoy good films, so I have no need for a PS3 or Blueray. When we start to see Criterion, foreign, and independant films in HD I will invest in a home theatre system...but I don't expect that for a good five years.

Well... right now I would have to say I would take the PS3. Then I could sell it and use the money to purchase a Wii and a few games and controllers! If I can't sell it, then I'd go with the Wii and Twilight Princess, since I've been looking forward to that since I first heard about it.

Wii doesn't and hasn't ever interested me so I have to say ps3 although I am not really expecting to like any of its launch games that much, its more of a long term thing. I would probably go for Resistance or RR7.

Unfortunately there isnt a Linux for Ps3 just yet, the Yellow dog thingie is listed as "coming soon" so right NOW all you can do is play Resistance, RR7 and hmm.. atacking the Weak Point of Genji 2 crabs for massive damage.

I have the Wii and a copy of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess pre-ordered.

I will probably also pick up Red Steel and either Rayman or Super Monkey Ball at Xmas.

Long term i'm looking at Maio, Metroid, Super Smash Bros., Disaster: DoC, Project HAMMER and, god-willing, Prince of Persia. That's a pretty good list of games over the next 5 months. I will pick up Alan Wake and Assassin's Creed for my PC, so have no interest in X360 or PS3.

Why can't 360 be an option lol...

Let's see. The PS3 will most likely stand the test of time much better than the Wii, but the Wii will be the most fun right when it comes out.

I think I will take the Wii because it has metal slug, and I love metal slug. Don't believe me, check out my MS shirt in the forums.

Wii or Ps3? Wii
Why? Why? Because after 4 years with a ps2 and a lot of good games in my table... i just can´t get along with this old set up of dual-analogic-a-bunch-of-buttons. It seens a very stupid waste of my time. Every play session ends with less than 5 minutes... But i still love video games, and i really think wii will save the day. I hope.

Which game? Zelda! Because wii sports goes on as the wii show off new possiblities, and is packed free with the console. Zelda is the must have of the season.
