Try to act surprised: Crysis 2 will be multiplatform photo

With Crytek constantly touting the power of CryEngine 3, specifically how well it looks and runs on home consoles, it should come as no surprise that Crysis 2 is coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as PC.

But now I'm getting ahead of myself. Crysis 2? Yep, it was announced today. Unfortunately, no screenshots or actual information accompanied the standard vague press release. We do know that EA will be publishing the game through its Partners program, but that doesn't exactly have the same effect as say, I don't know, in-game foliage.

So instead of talking about what little there is to know about Crysis 2 at this point in time, I propose we talk about how awesome an open-world Jurassic Park (or Predator) game could potentially be if it used CryEngine 3. Go on, discuss!

EA PARTNERS AND CRYTEK ANNOUNCE DEAL EXTENSION FOR MULTIPLATFORM DEVELOPMENT OF CRYSIS 2

Next Installment of the Critically-Acclaimed Crysis Franchise will be First Game Built on Crytek's Multiplatform CryENGINE 3 Technology

Redwood City, Calif. – June 1, 2009 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that it has agreed to a deal extension with Crytek GmbH, the award-winning developers of the Crysis® universe, to publish Crysis 2. Renowned for their technical excellence, artistic craftsmanship and commitment to quality, Crytek is building Crysis 2 on their new state-of-the-art multiplatform game development solution CryENGINE®3 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, and the PC.

“The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryENGINE 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event.”

“Nothing speaks more to the success of the EA Partners program than when a studio the caliber of Crytek continues to work with us,” said David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners. “Crytek is already one of the elite PC development studios in the world and we are excited to have the opportunity to partner with them in bringing their award-winning technology and gameplay to more platforms and a wider audience with Crysis 2.”

Oh, but good for them. Now all of the people who can't read the internets (or just can't read period) now know about this wonderful new title to play on their little messy console boxes!

Great! If they are going to follow the thread they set with Farcry 1 and 2, maybe this time we'll get a great game instead of big, long, boring, overpriced tech demo!

This is a shock.
Though really, it's cool that console people will get to play something similar to Crysis, I'm entirely unsure if it'd be fun. Crysis was fun because Delta required you to keep on your toes, and that kinda means you have to be both accurate, and fast to turn around :(

@Iron, please say you're trolling.

@Nexus

Blame it on the second picture, I was momentatily stunned at how good that woman looks, even when surprised, that I didn't even think of removing the IMG link for the first one!

Also, you think Evil Cole (inFamous,people) did that to the kid? He is a evil dick, he now might turn to little boys for 'pleasure' when using his powers. :P

When I first played the original farcry, and I mean the PC version, my balls literally fell off. How can you say it was an overlong tech-demo? It was a fucking fantastic game, and at the time nothing felt quite like it...
The second one is a divider, but I personally loved it.

Personaly i loved playing Crysis and Warhead and i think the graphics hype/high requireents stopped alot of people from getting it. If you learn how to use the suit well in that game you can do some crazy stuff.

You are correct. Lets discuss Jurassic Park and/or Predator using the Cryengine 3.

Would they be awesome? Or totally fucking mindblowing awesome? Incidentally, I think I remember seeing a mod for Crysis, very early progress mind you, that involved a T-Rex. I think I'll go have another look for that.

Oh, and Crysis 2? More of the same I bet, but that makes for fun. I think Crytek will think of some new weapons or suit powers to mix things up. If its gonna run well and look nice on the consoles, itll do that on my pc too, so im happy.

Update - There are in fact TWO mods for Crysis involving dinosaurs, one trying to create the Jurassic Park movie/book, and the other is called The Lost World but isnt related to the J.P franchise.

The Lost World is looking particularly good; check out the video, it has a few dino's moving around. Considering the vid is from february, and they intended to get a trailer and perhaps even a demo out by may, this could be one to watch.
