Try Dtoid's new gaming meetup thing, win 1 of 3 sick PCs photo

Update:  Today is the last day to enter the raffle.  Good luck!

A wise young man at PAX once asked me: "Why the hell is it so hard to meet up and play with people on Dtoid?" Good question! So we got to work and today I'm proud to unveil the new version of our community gaming meetup thing.  Try out Destructoid meetup+play!

How it works: We pick a handful of the most popular games on PC and consoles.  You add them to your Dtoid profile and set what timezone and times you're usually up for an online game. People can then see what games you own and you can send them a private message to meet up. You can even score the results of the match if you want to play competitively, and each PM gives links to your personal private chat room to facilitate meetup communication without compromising your privacy.

Try it out for a chance to win sick Vigor gaming PCs.

We'll enter your name in a raffle for $1,500 gaming PC just for adding your games and sending one request to play.  Next week the most active players will be invited to a private meetup against Dtoid editors to compete for gaming prizes for Intel, including a beastly $5,000 PC courtesy of Vigor Gaming.  Don't you wish all beta tests worked like this?

give link to this site for timezone help: http://www.timegenie.com/timezones
as the timezone abbreviations are too complex. so this site will help.

Looks interesting, though you need to remove html tags from the title attribute in a.player on players_by_game.php?g=6&subnav=games I think (the page with the actual meet up details of who is online).

I think with a few tweeks to the UI and flow, it could become a rather slick thing. Good job :)

So is there a way to set your system to anything but PC on multiplatform games? The only thing on 360 seems to be teh haloz but I don't have it :(

sounds very very good! The tweeting and facebook thing is also a really great feature!
But I'd be good if you could choose on which console you're playing the different game

def needs more console titles. I would play COD4, SFIV, or SPFII:Turbo if they were listed on xbox. I can't play halo because I sold it as soon as COD4 came out.

More console games: Check!

Wardrox: Looks like it's an IE thing, I'm on it.

This seems like a pretty sweet idea. Add more games like Super Turbo HD and BlazBlue and the ability to select our platform of choice and it will be perfect.

Oooooh very nice!! Is there a way that you can set the times that you can play individually or is it across the board for all games?? For example, I can only play Killzone 2 on Friday and Weekends when I go home but can play Quake Live just about every night.

It would be nice if one was able to select a skill level, I don't want to be smashed by Quake Live fragmasters.

I've already started some invites, the whole system works really well in my opinion, much easier than setting games up through a thread in the forum or just random gaming by grabbing people's gaming info.

Anybody want to do some 360 gaming, I need a new PC, my current one is from 2002 =D

Also I think you should expand Cod4, TF2, L4D, and SF4 to 360 as well.

Oh and you guys don't have a spot for a GFWL tag, which is kinda silly when that's what SF IV on PC uses.

Actually, you can put your GFWL tag on the XBOX field since it's still technically a LIVE account. It works.
Wedge's Avatar - Comment posted on 10/22/2009 20:32

Yes I know that, but I use a seperate tag for GFWL for a couple reasons. I just put them both in the XBox tag for now anyways.

I love the idea of this whole meetup thing. How likely is it that we will eventually be able to add our own games to the selection, though? Would that totally destroy the current system or cause too many headaches?

Hmm... Of course more titles are coming, but can we swing Mario Cart Wii? That is the one I play the most (in terms of multiplayer) on the Wii and the only Wii game I play online (with the exception of Guitar Hero a while back, before I realized everyone who plays online all try to grief people by playing only song they are perfect and drop the game if they miss a note in vs). Not that there are a shitload... but still. Mario Kart, bitches.

Since I realize that there's no way you guys can line up all the games we'll ever want to play ahead of time, maybe it would be helpful to have some sort of option to submit a game to be added to this service?

How lame is this: I have a shitty computer and no consoles to go online (Except Wii... ...) and can't play BECAUSE I have a shitty PC. And if my PC wasn't as shitty, I'd be all over this and have a chance to win a better PC. *sadface*

Add the time adjustment to the timezone dropdown instead of a giant list of call letters. Look at the way the windows clock has timezones written out, and copy that instead. Waaaay easier to find what you want.

Also yeah, add more games. Wolfenstein: Enemjy Territory for example, it's free and old, everyone can play.

I've tons of work to do so I doubt I will get in on this beta contest, though seems well put together and I'm sure Dtoid will make it snap.

"I'm incredibly cheap with Ken"
haha dude you crack me up!

I'm sure this service will help the masses come together in a large slippery pile of gaming greatness...

Very cool. Filling in mine now. :)

One suggestion with the list of timezones though. Instead of having a list of EVERY time zone that exists, just have the regions in relation to GMT (eg: I'd be GMT -4:00). That'd really trim the list down and (hopefully) get rid of the need to look up the acronym. :)

Will there be a way to request new games, or maybe build your own list?

I can't say much about the selection of games available for checkboxing.

As far as multiplayer goes, I mostly do Audiosurf and Jedi Academy.
