Trophies not coming to PSP

Trophies not coming to PSP photo

Sony has confirmed that the footage showing a Trophy collection on the screen of a PSP was, in fact, showcasing the remote play feature of the system. It seemed like the more likely explanation for the footage, but even so, it gives me a sad in my heart.

"The screen shown on the end of the video showcases the Remote Play function on a PSP," confirms a Sony rep, “allowing you to take a look at your XMB, Trophies, friends and other content via your PSP. As it’s such a great feature and unique to the PlayStation format we wanted to showcase it."

I guess Trophies on PSP was too good an idea for Sony to embrace. It might make the PSP more successful, and Sony seems strongly against the idea of that ever happening. Ah well.

PSP “Trophies” grab was Remote Play for PS3, says SCEE [VG247]

Oh, well. It would have been nice, but it wouldn't have really revolutionized my PSP experience. May be if Sony sees enough demand they could implement this in the future, or possibly PSP 2.

Marcus obviously doesn't care about trophies.

Last comment from Sony I heard about this was that they had no intention of doing it because of how highly rampant piracy is on the PSP, and that would somehow diminish the accomplishments of legit players.

Shame, too. I bought Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess, and ut technically has trophies, but is PSP got trophy support, there might could be a chance of cross-platform trophying for minis (or at least that one).

Fill me in here - what's so nice about trophies?

Because there's lots of handheld games that have been released in the last couple of years with their own internal - and more rewarding - achievement systems.

Try out the Phantasy Star Portable 2 Demo for an example. It has 11 achievements to unlock with in-game rewards. Its kept me playing the demo well past seven hours and more will be available in the final version in a few weeks. Well, that and the online play. None of that Ad Hoc Party bullshit this time.

Trophies, by contrast, kinda suck.

trophies would have been great. its a real shame. sony could update the psp so that it could have so much more, like youtube support for older models. i don't want to buy a psp GO, just make a better update.

how many things has sony retroactively patched into both the ps3 and psp? It's pretty incredible when compared to when they launched. Still... I'm kinda glad. I'd rather they save that sort of thing for psp2 where it was designed from the ground up to support them.

I've always disliked the trophy and achievement systems. They never held any appeal to me for any reason. So I'm okay without trophies on my PSP.

MY DS is great too it doesn't have achievement systems in place and it is the best selling handhold this side of the pacific..and the other side too.

Honestly...if you get trophies/achievements to be at the top of a worldwide leaderboard you are kind of a crazy person and also part of a very small minority of gamers. If you look at the leaderboards for the PS3 specifically, there aren't many people who are competing for even the top 100-200 spot.

Personally, I achievement whore to outdo my friends and to get a sense of completion from a game. With that said, I don't see why the people who cheat the system would be an issue for anyone who isn't part of that 100-200 people who achievement/trophy whore to be competitive.

Remember when we used to play games just to play them and not for to see a bunch of icons pop up and pat us on the back? The Duke does and that's exactly how The Duke still does baby!

I hate trophies. Internal rewards systems are so much better.

Well of course you remember playing games without a pat on the back, you haven't shown your face in 11 years, I'm surprised you know what a trophy IS even-ah.

Have to agree with the sentiment of several others here. Why are trophies/ achievements necessary at all on any platform? It's fucking sad that gamers today put any stock at all in that crap. Are we really so pathetic that we need a stupid icon to validate our achievements? How did it come to this? And the suggestion that the addition of this stupid tracking system would somehow breathe life into a dying platform is beyond ridiculous; at least it should be anyways.

Shame on you for running that bogus story in the first place. It was only the most obvious fucking thing in the world. You stupid, fat, idiot.

I wasn't aware that the idea "Trophies" and using a website to access and modify your account, friends list, etc was an idea unique to the "Playstation Format". Or the idea of accessing it from some small device with the internet.

achievements and trophies wouldn't work on psp because its not constantly online like a system is. and the PSP online to my knowledge doesn't function like the ps3's so the psps trophies would only be for you to look at.

I love how Sony can design a wonderful system like remote play and yet I still can't make PSN purchases or message my friends from my web browser at work.

trophies not being on the psp are purely a memory issue and hacking issue. i expect the psp's successer to have them.

The PSP needs to be able to view your Friends list and send messages WITHOUT Remote Play. :/
Trophies would just be superfluous on the PSP.

HPV lurves the cock. What a grade A twat.

Also, if he had bothered to read (assuming he can), then he proabably missed the bit implying discussion instead of just joing everyone else in a round of "Lets see who can repeat the first posters commment regarding the validity of the posts picture and completely ignore the words 'Nevertheless, it's something to consider, and a good chance to sound off about whether you think Trophies should come to the PSP' game".

Or something.

What a shame and another missed opputunity for Sony.

I don't know about you people, but I enjoy having a list of games I've completed, trophies and all tied to my online PSN account. I don't see why it would be a memory issue when it should be small to impliment.

I'd play a lot more PSP games if trophies were available, but my 360 commands more attention because all 360 games have them. Sony should get on this quick, for while iPhone has a similar system, something as simple as trophies could save PSPs fortunes, especially if you could actually redeem trophies for credit and a new game.
