So as it turns out, none of us on staff know exactly what Tron is. As far as I know, most of us have never watched the original movie. We know it has something to do with people getting transported into a videogame and racing motorcycles. So it's like the Matrix, except on older hardware.
So yeah. That's Tron, I guess. I know, I'm sorry. I'm going to watch the original film one of these days. In the mean time, let me make it up to you all with pictures of Olivia Wilde who's starring in the Tron 2 movie. Oh, and here's the trailer for the game that was shown during the VGAs tonight.
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

If the Podtoid crew can demand everyone watch Total Recall and Darkman II: Return Of Durant, everyone on staff needs to see Tron, stat. And wonder why so many people think it's still amazing.
I love it and all, but it's definitely aged, and Tron 2.0 was pretty ineffectual.
Lol. I watched the movie, but never fell in love with it like many others did. Had a blast pumping quarters into the arcade game back in the day, but that's a whole other topic.
Having watched this trailer, I too walked away feeling like I known nothing more about it than I did before...absolutely nothing.
You can get the gist of Tron in Kingdom Hearts II. It was a pretty random (and awesome) inclusion to that game.
Its just a gist of the computer side of the story, though. There was a real world side. More or less a guy named Flynn works for ENCOM, which makes popular software and arcade games. Many of these creations are Flynn's, but higher-up Dillinger (Jeff Bridges) gets him pushed out of the company and takes credit for all his ideas.
This doesn't make Flynn happy, so he eventually finds a way into another part of company to gain evidence of Dillinger's wrongdoings and it all gets crazy from there. He's sucked into a computer world, assumse the role of a co-workers security protocol and has to face an evil empire within. The program corrupting that world things it can do things better than "the Users."
Don't bother watching Tron. It's a cool movie for technology in movies, but it's honestly not good. The story makes no sense, the characters are rather bland and generic and the action is extremely slow. Just play Tron 2.0; it's better than the movie and still has all of the same awesome.
My guess: the jai alai ball/mitt, frisbee, and now sparring sticks will be your primary weapons that you'll be able to upgrade a la most action games out there. Bicycle levels will exist and likely annoy the heck out of people as a distraction to the combat focused gameplay otherwise.
Also, if you haven't seen Tron and are at least 25+ years in age, I question your street cred.
Wow... I totally just lost some respect for Destructoid.
You guys still are the best in the biz, but really? No one has seen Tron?
I am not going to go on some big Tron-lovefest. But come on... This is tantamount to a rock band having never listened to a Zeppelin song or a rapper not kowing who Run DMC is.
Tron is also an outdated security program that could be easily ripped to shreds by an amature hacker, not to mention probably crash your PC from its incompatiblity. Nowadays, instead of Tron, we get Norton. -_-
I'm real close to removing Dtoid from my RSS because how in the hell can any game review site have so few people writing who have seen the movie? As far as I can tell no one here has seen it. Forgot about the classic arcade games Discs of Tron and Tron. Forget about all the crappy Atari 2600 and INTV Tron games. How can no one have played Tron 2.0?! I spent months just playing the online light cycle game.
The tutorial is very simple and explained to a great level. It doesn’t take any effort from our side to grasp it! I guess now I understand what the threshold function was for and how it could be used to make striking line art conversion effects! Nursery Furniture

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
