The Man has me travelling a lot lately for work, so the only opportunities to game between the cracks have been on my cracked DS. Among other
Minish titles, I've recently picked up
Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls (Gameboy Advance). This was a safe bet at longevity, as this remake of the NES classic would require at least a week of sleepless nights unlike
NSMB which I chewed out in an afternoon. The remastered game extras includes four *new* labyrinths (they are surreal - fake towns, ships inside caves, walking on air, etc -- really neat if you loved the original) which really adds to the replay value and length of the game. But nevermind all that -- they put a Trogdor reference in the game! While milling around in the new Hellfire Chasm one of the NPCs says, "This is private property. Trespassers will be burninated!" Burninated? Sure enough, I'm not insane: Someone beat me to it and ammended
Trogdor's Wikipedia entry already. But there was lack of photographic proof, which my triggerfinger and cell phone hath now provided.
Much to my surprise, this isn't an isolated incident -- other Trogdor sightings have been spotted in
Guild Wars,
Auto Assault,
Adventure Quest, and a host of other games. If you've been missing out, Trogdor The Burninator is a character from the online comic called Homestar Runner, which appeared first in
StrongBad Email #58. He was an instant Internet sensation which also spawned music tributes, online games, and (if Homestar is worked into the conversation) groups of I.T. guys breaking out into song at weddings. However silly and fleeting, kudos to the localization team to sneak that in there.
