Trivia fact for the day: Spider-Man PS3 font all Kutaragi's idea photo

There will come a day, maybe 10 years from now, where you'll be sitting around a fire and playing Trivial Pursuit with your yuppy neighbors. And on that day, there will be a question in which because you love this site, you'll know the answer. That question: Who's brilliant idea was it to use the Spider-Man font for the Sony PlayStation 3? Your answer can now be a resounding, "Ken Kutaragi!" From PS3 designer Teiyu Goto via CVG:

"If you really look at the PS3 contour carefully, it is rounded when viewing the console in profile. Rather than creating a typography with all the risks that entails, it was wiser to use the one from Spider-Man, for which Sony has the rights.

"It was also the wish of President Kutaragi, who insisted that I use this typography. In fact, the logo was one of the first elements he decided on and the logo may have been the motivating force behind the shape of PS3."

Clearly the correct thing to do was to use the Destructoid font. What amateurs.

I dunno about you, but everytime I see that font, I don't think PS3, I think Spiderman...is that where they are going with the PS3? Maybe their "Elite" version of the PS3 will come with some of that Spiderman "crazy string" stuff.

Would you really want something as classy as the Dtoid font being associated with Ken Kutaragi? Talk about the "real" PR Nightmare (Sorry, Workman). Surely you haven't forgotten the smack talk he unleashed on the world not that long ago.

Yea...it must be in the HOME button...and since there is so much leftover space due to lack of rumble they could fill the inside of the controller with the spiderman crazy string stuff...that's next gen.

I don't mind it on the console now but the horrific black border on the side of the PS3 game cases is disgusting.

I don't mind the font at all. That said it irks me a little that the game cases for the PS3 isn't in the same height as the standard DVD case.
