Trek out with Star Trek Online Collector’s Edition photo

Star Trek Online is coming, and there are plenty of people out there who have been waiting for it for a long time. The universe of Star Trek seems perfectly designed for an MMO and it looks like they’ve been putting some serious time into this thing. Plus, with this summer’s revamping of the franchise Star Trek is back in popular culture’s limelight. In short, there are plenty of Trek fans out there now.

For those that want to differentiate themselves from the masses and claim they’re bigger Trekkies than anyone else we introduce to you the Star Trek Online Collector’s Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition. The Collector’s Edition will have the usual stuff, with fancy packaging, a high end manual that includes artwork, a nick-nack in the form of a communicator badge, and a few guest passes for friends to play. It also comes replete with two in-game items. It will retail for $79.99.

The Digital Deluxe Edition doesn’t have the fancy box and physical stuff so it comes with a whole crap ton of in-game items and perks that you can read about after the jump. It will sell for $59.99.

· Original Star Trek Uniform Set: Three uniforms from the original series (blue, red, yellow).

· Exclusive “KHAAAN!” Emote: An unforgettable moment from the second Star Trek Film. This exclusive emote allows players to relive Kirk’s unforgettable moment of fury, with the timeless cry… “KHAAAN!”

· Exclusive Klingon Blood Wine Toast Emote: Raise a glass like a Klingon! Greet other players with an exclusive Klingon gesture –the blood wine toast.

· Unique Registry Prefix: Give your ship the coveted NX prefix, seen only on a handful of elite Starfleet vessels like the Defiant, 22nd century Enterprise, and Prometheus.

· Unique Ship Item: Automated Defense Battery. This Tactical Module grants any ship a passive 360 arc attack power with a short range.

So, the hardcore completionist nerds will need to buy the DDE, the CE, and 3-5 more standard copies of the regular game to get all of the pre-order items.

Great way to increase release week sales numbers, Atari. Glad I'm not a Trekkie. (I only needed to pre-order 2 copies of the Mass Effect 2 CE... and Dragon Age. Okay, I'm not much better off.)

They already threw more explosions into the STO trailers than happened in the entire series of TNG, so I'm not sure what else you want. Star Trek has never had a focus on action until this latest movie (which was barely Star Trek). Hell the best Star Wars game ever was A Final Unity and it was a point and click adventure game.

Anyway I have this preordered on Amazon. Depending on the rest of the pre-release coverage I might swap to the standard edition, but being a big trek fan I probably won't.

Gah, I wish I could Beta(try before I buy) this game... Love Star Trek but hate bad MMO's. The digital edition is best, IMO, as with any MMO, the shit you've got in-game is (basically) your value/worth. That and I wouldn't want to actually wear a communicator badge in real life, that would be social suicide. I guess my "beta" will have to be the first "free" month :(

i can see it now, 10,000 players running around a town yelling "KHAAN!!!" over and over again..

which makes the pre-order for that worth every penny lol
