Last Friday I yanked my Saturn out of my entertainment system and drove it halfway across the city to a friend's house so we could play Radiant Silvergun co-op until our eyelids failed. This morning InsertCredit spotted that the company responsible for this game, Ikaruga, and a few other non shmups I don't give a rat's ass about is hiring to build a new game. Hopefully not another Bleach title...
Treasure is currently hiring up a bit according to their main index page. Looking for a 3D game programmer, and a 3D CG designer. Not much more info here, other than that it's a 'new project' that requires an emphasis on originality. At the top of the page it says they're making a 'new action game.' There are also a few outstanding job positions they need filled - a motion leader, which I assume to be similar to lead animator, an effects designer, a character modeler (!), a background modeler, and a scene designer. Sounds rather like a character-based game 3rd person action game, something Treasure hasn't done for a long time. Guess we'll have to wait and see! (3rd person is presumed - could be first person, but I'd be surprised!)
That's fine. Now then, I suppose a short little open letter is overdue.
Dear Treasure, While we all know that the shmup market dried up a long time ago, you cannot deny the success of Geometry Wars. The world still loves shooters when they are made correctly, and I don't know of a better company that can do what you guys did with the genre. Thus, I hope that when the new staff comes in you'll lock them in a basement and whip them into submission to remaster this masterpiece in 1080 with online play. Please don't change the translation, though. Nothing has ever quite pumped me up than the battlecry of BE ATTITUDE FOR GAINS. It's Zen.
Where have all the spaceships gone?

Contest:
So far all i've gotten to work is Virtua Tennis and Ikaruga. I'm really impressed with the second one, never before have I played a game requiring so much branching multi-focus. and the only way to get through some of the levels is play the crap out of it until you're insanely good.

i've gone through probably 10 failed CDRs and many hours of wasted time, but with Ikaruga, the $15 was totally worth it.
