Trauma Center DS: Under the Knife 2 announced photo

My first time playing Trauma Center, I played for three hours straight. It had been a while since any DS game had caused such obsessive emotions for me, not to mention presented me with enough challenge to make me want to throw my DS across the room. As hurling controllers across the room is directly associated with my NES days, it' a good thing -- it means I care about the game.

Trauma Center: New Blood was announced for the Wii with nary a glimmer of a DS version in sight, and since I far preferred the DS controls for the game, I was pretty downtrodden about this. However, today I am dancing around with my underwear on my head in a fit of glee, because Atlus has announced Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2, and it is most certainly coming to the DS.

An official website has been launched for the game, which comes out on July 1st. You can check out the trailer there as well as read up on the story, although if you played the first DS game, you'll already be familiar with all the major characters. I won't talk about where Under the Knife 2 begins so as not to ruin the first game for people who haven't played it, but Under the Knife was by far one of my favorite stories in a DS game the year it was released. Can't wait to get my hands on the sequel so I can start actually considering tearing my hair out again!

Check out the full press release after the jump.

Oooh this makes me happy. I broke things due to Trauma Center so having a new DS one and a new Wii one makes me very happy. Also makes everything around me very nervous.

well hell I still have to finish the first one cause you know...it gets pretty ridiculous.

I'm happy though. I won't have to go out and buy the Wii version just to continue. Cause we all know Wiis are a bigger dust collector than the PS3.

I LOVE THIS GAME!!! Played it on the Wii before DS, and prefer the handheld. Also, if anyone needs a fix of surgery gameplay, the [adult swim] game Amateur surgeon is fucking crazygood.

I thought the first game was pretty spiffy. Never played the second game on the Wii though.

I love this game. I got so excited when I got the e-mail from Atlus saying it was coming out in July. The first one was exhilarating to play, especially on the final couple levels. The pure GUILT viruses had me working so furiously I was drenched in sweat by the time I had finished. I can't name any other stationary games that have ever done that to me.

No clue why Trauma Center is not in my library. Mayhap the sequel will fill the void.

The only problem I ever had with this game was the dialog. Too much of it, and it was mostly lame.

But the game itself was just so damned much FUN. Reminded me of those old x86 computer games like Surgery: The Brain. They're responsible for the successful discount brain surgeon I am today.

I loved the first trauma center. Unfortunately, I could never beat The GUILT that was shaped in triangles and had spikes. I can't wait to get my by then sterilized for surgery hands on it.

Also, have you ever thought of growing your hair out Colette? I think it would be a good look for you

I was huge fan of the original, I played it so much that I S-ranked all surgeries, I even have the giant circled shaped scratched on my touchscreen to prove it, finally a reason to dust off my DS.

Awesome! While I enjoyed the first Wii version, you can't beat the tactile feel of controlling the DS game with the stylus directly on the screen.

This game was ridiculous I got stuck on Chapter 3 Episode 4. I loved the game till I got stuck. It went from decent to incredibly hard and I guess I'm just not coordinated enough. But other than that it was getting pretty interesting but it was just so frustrating that I never got past being stuck.

This better not be as frustrating as the first game. I want to at least complete more than one operation without failing this time.

I tried playing the first game. My shaky hands just couldn't cope with it. I'm not sure if I should get the sequel...
