I'm not a huge fan of destroying my childhood memories or the magical power of nostalgia. So I had no idea that there was such a thing as Transformers: Prime, a show now well into its second season that apparently has dark and more violent themes than the original cartoon. Knowledge of its existence hasn't made me interested in it, but it does star Adam Baldwin and Steven Blum so it can't be completely awful. Kids seem to like it, so Activision is turning it into an action brawler.
Players take on the roles of the Autobot heroes: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Arcee and Bulkhead. Their goal is to once again fight the Decepticons, led by Megatron and defend Earth. Along the way they will befriend and hang out with a bunch of children, hopefully so that they can be used as cannon fodder. Transformers Prime is coming out later this year on the Wii, 3DS and DS
Steve Blum's Starscream...damn, he's creepy. Honestly, he brings this feeling of sleaze to his voice that makes you want to take a shower to afterwards.
And a Megatron that's really scary and menacing? For the first time since Beast Wars, yes!
Transformers Prime is better than G1, and I'd wager anyone who says otherwise either A) hasn't watched G1 in a long-ass time, or B) simply doesn't like new things. ;)
Seriously though, the new shows on The Hub have been doing a brilliant job so far at re-imagining Hasbro's old franchises with a fresh coat of paint. Who would have thought that a reboot of My Little Pony could be so good that adult men tune in to watch it every week by the hundreds of thousands?
If they can do that with a show about pastel-colored ponies with names like "Twilight Sparkle" and "Fluttershy", try to imagine what they can do with the likes of GI Joe and Transformers-- perhaps the transition is not that extreme since these are already "guy friendly" brands, but still, they are quite impressive and definitely better than half the cartoons I grew up watching (the other half being anything produced by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini). GI Joe Renegades in particular has impressed me a lot, if for no other reason than because of how maturely it handles its subject matter not just for a kids' show, but for a TV show period.
They had GI Joe Renegades, too, but they've put Season 2 on hiatus because they apparently want to tie the release in with the new movie somehow. Just give us the freaking show back, already! >:(
No offense to Blum or Baldwin, or the show (cause it isn't half bad), but just because they lend their voices to something doesn't mean its got to be all that good..
This seems to be the "Nolan North Effect" not everything that man touches is gold -I'm sorry- and that goes for other well known actors/voice actors. They get a pay check either way.
It's a puff ball kind of week, as three Kirby games are hitting the Wii U Virtual Console -- Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby Super Star, and Kirby's Dream Course. If you buy two of the aforementioned titles by May 30th, you'll ge...
Sure, the meme is a bit old but the added sound effects to the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate video is what really made this spoof for me. Bravo, Capcom-Unity.
