Activision gets it. Instead of casting Michael "destined to be shot in the face" Bay's theatrical voice of Megatron (played by Hugo Weaving against all logic), they "have reunited the original voiceover talents of Frank Welker and Peter Culling to reprise their respective roles as Megatron and Optimus Prime in the upcoming Transgender game." Call it wise ... or call it obvious: I doubt the game will sell well and Matrix Agents don't come cheap.
The movie hits theaters July 4th, so we can only assume the three attached in-game screenshots are as good as it gets. Recognize any Transvestites from your childhood there? Exactly. Well, that's technically supposed to be (the formerly little wimpy) Bumblebee throwing that car. So wrong. Besides the fact that he looks like a weird breed of Junkicon-meets-praying mantis, he's supposed to be barely big enough to throw an Energon Cube! That's why I said you won't technically see Megatron or Optimus in the game either -- voiceovers aside, I can't muster any feelings of nostalgia for this project because these screenshots might as well be from Armored Core. Now, please excuse me while I go cut the veins of my inner child. Three screenshots follow:

Just like the American Godzilla re-vamp, this film looks too different from the orignal to please Transformers fans, but still to "nerdy" to please non-transformer fans.
We'll see how well it does.
They're supposed to be made of boxes, damn it! Where are my boxes? Alas, even though the new look will not stop me from seeing the film, it will stop me from playing this game.
Perhaps they will have some secret unlocks where you can play as the original Transformers.
I can dream...
Why is it so hard for people to believe that it actually might end up good?
This is not the first time the license has been raped.
Till all are one means nothing any more.
Also the guys who gave us Bionicle Heroes, which explains many things.
G1 is dead and the world does not cater to nostalgic fanboys (I am one, myself), get over it. (Although, actually, they have been listening to the fans. They hired Cullen as Prime and modified Megatron's face because of the fans' whining.)
Have any of you ever actually sat down and watched the original cartoon? It sucked balls. Huge, giant Unicron balls. It's still fun to watch, but there's no way in hell they should directly, faithfully adapt it for the big screen. Hell, the original animated movie wasn't even a faithful adaptation.
In the video on the tf game site with cullen and welker, at the end we hear welkers megs and its the same as the original voice.
so id presume as its based on the movie, thats how Megatron will sound in the movie!
so it begs the question, why hugo weaving? to me they want original megs voice but not the original megs to do it.
they just want a lotr and matrix actor attached to the movie for promotion.
i can see the next trailer now: hugo weaving, star of the matrix and lotr as the ruthless megatron and peter cullen reprises his role as the heroic autobot leader optimus prime
As for the movie, I'm very interested in it even if I don't care for some of the designs. They don't look like any of the original Transformers, but that really doesn't matter. They're trying to exercise different forms of creativity, so I say let them. And for your information, the original Transformers cartoon was campy and even at it's best during the second season, wasn't particularly good. Beast Wars was VERY well written, especially during the middle and end, and was written like really good sci-fi.
Nothing will ever, EVER make you remember Transformers the same way you did as a child. You could watch the original shows, but it won't be the same. Things change, people change, franchises change. And not always for the worse.
I'm surprised. Most people would get excited at playing as Starscream and flying over and bombing a city.
Is it confirmed that the game is free-roaming, with all the at-will transforming you can handle, and the playing of both sides that people keep talking about? If so, perhaps I'll give it a shot. If not... well, I didn't much care for Transformers Armada.
YOU GOT THE TOUCH!
I went through all of elementary and middle school with my Optimus fig in hand. I loved the original series when I was 8. But seriously, have any of you watched it recently? It's total crap. The animation is crap. The script is crap. It just sucks. Take off the rose colored glasses and give the this incarnation a shot. You sound like a bunch of old men.
Optimus doesn't die. But another Autobot does.
And to everyone crying "OH NOES, MY CHILDHOOD HAS BEEN RAPED!!!", I love Transformers... but it was a cheaply produced cartoon created solely to sell Japanese robot toys to Americans. It's not worth worshiping. If you can't accept that 20 years later the characters are going to be updated for a live action adaptation, it's really time to move out of your parent's basement and get a life. And change your Bumblebee underoos, they're getting sketchy.

Yeah. Its a re-imagining, and I'm OK with that. If they brought back the same robot designs Its be just about as campy as G1. And yeah, as much as we want to think back and deify the cartoon series, it really was as bad as we didn't remember it! :)
And yeah, Beast Wars did a decent enough job later in its run at justifying its connection to the original series.
I'm completely psyched for the movie and, if the new guys decided to learn anything from what the Armada game did right, I'm pretty interested in the game. Its gotta be way better than the Commodore 64 game (Think GhostBusters for Sega Master system, but with less action and character control . . .)
In terms of the movie, it's designed to be mostly an action movie. Kind of like... Terminator with a twist, by the looks of it. In Terminator, it was the good guys against incredible odds, such as a much superior foe. In Transformers, it'll be 2 almost evenly matched sides, so it'll be pretty interesting.
@Mxyzptlk (SPOILERS) I know Bumblebee is slated to die in the movie and to be rebuilt. I kinda meant the fact that this is supposed to be a trilogy, and if in one of the later movies he may die.
Bumblebee's not the one who dies.
Though badly animated and written, the old show did have it's redeeming qualities.
