The latest trailer and images for Project Gotham Racing 4 are all about showcasing the game's stunning visuals and new weather effects.
The biggest improvement from PGR3 seems to be the dynamic weather system. Taking one step closer to realism, PGR4 will have rain storms and snow flurries that can strike at any time during a race. The weather effects aren't just for show either; driving will become increasingly difficult as weather conditions worsen and cause the in-game physics to change.
Another one of the new features is a revamped career mode as detailed below:
Drivers will be rewarded with a growing fanbase that'll cheer them on, react to their every move and support them through victory. Just imagine hearing the roar of the crowd as you cross the finish line with your own style and flair.
Last but not least, PGR4 will sport a revised Kudos system:
Flair and driving style will now be just as important as technical skill, as players passing their opponent at full speed will pump their fists and exhibit more emotion as they earn recognition with the revisedKudos system. The Kudos will be worthwhile too, because the new A.I. personalities will be able to perform bold new driving maneuvers as they race side by side with other drivers.
Find out about some of the new cars featured in PGR4 after the break.
ya that is true...I have a hard time placing the PGR series...it isn't arcady enough to be quite like RidgeRacer and not quite realistic enough to be a sim...WHAT IS IT?!?!
That trailer music was far too laid back for a racing game. I ended up just zoning out and afterwards, realising I hadn't actually been watching the video.
@ Grim: Forza 2 and GT:HD are more for people who love realistic games or are HUGE into motorsports... I'm not trying to judge but I doubt your a big car guy Grim... That probably is why you seem to enjoy PGR more so. It also helps to have the full steering wheel setup etc...
@DJ Duffy: I call PGR Mario Kart for the 360 to piss my friends off that like it... ;)
All they really needed to do was fix the unbearable load times. That was, by fucking far, the worst part about PGR3. They were the reason I sold it back to EB.
dynamic rain yes, but crowds that are not weather protected including fake camera men with cameras in the rain.... kinda takes away from the realistic rain feel
grim you REALLY need to give forza a chance. I felt the same way last gen with the original on the xbox and it soon came to own my soul. Even my girlfriend got into it. you're not less of a man than, uhm, my girlfriend, are you?
:cringes: I think that came out wronger than intended
Yeah, $150 at retail for the wheel. I'm actually planning on buying it tonight in lieu of the Forza 2 demo.
Personally, I love both the sim racing games and the arcadey ones like PGR. It's hard to play one of these games and then jump into another one though. Takes me about an hour to get into the right mindset when I switch games. I've heard that the wheel works great with Forza but not so much with PGR3. Hopefully PGR4 will get along with the wheel much better.
PGR3 is horrible with the wheel! I tried to play it for a few days with the wheel and couldnt get the handle of it... could have been cuz i was playing GT:HD often also!
PGR is pretty awesome. It's technical enough to frustrate me and be a challenge but its fun enough to not bore the absolute shit out of me like Gran Tourismo and those other proper sims.
Still...Burnout 2 FTW!
Sometimes, especially when you get up to the last few races in GT or Forza, or on legend on MotoGP, it can be a bit tense. PGR is nice to throw in and have fun with some friends online. GREAT in car view too. Turn off the HUD, maps, etc, listen to the engine for when to shift, very immersive.
And it's still got a great rendition of Nordschleife. Boba, it's Mario Kart with Nurburgring!
I played the Forza 2 demo last night. While it did look good, it didn't look fantastic. However, the features on it blew my mind!!! I'm not much of a racing fan, though. I spent most of my time in the demo trying to crash into other cars.
MS steering wheel + PGR3 = crap
MS steering wheel + Forza 2 demo = Godly
I got the wheel last night. Over $160 with tax. Played PGR3, knowing that the game wouldn't work well with the wheel... didn't realize just how poorly it would work. That style of game just doesn't work with a steering wheel. I now doubt that PGR4 will fare much better.
Played Forza 2 demo with the wheel though... I probably played that game at least 4 hours last night, just on that one track, mostly with the A class cars. I even played with all of the assists turned off (except for ABS), no racing line, and on manual transmission (I never use manual in racing games). Holy F was it fun. Worth every penny.
