I can't honestly recall the last time breaking seals in a videogame didn't end horribly. Red Faction: Armageddon, as we learn with this new story-centric trailer, is no exception.
The seals on Mars have indeed been broken, which is why this new installment suddenly has alien foes running amok. Pretty standard action-y build-up trailer we've got here, complete with the quick cut to smooching and everything.
I'm still unsure about Armageddon, especially after that unpleasantly linear demo. We shall see.
I agree, that demo was just so plain and boring. The fact that you can repair structures now is actually an interesting feature, but nothing else really piqued my interest. No hammer & no open world destruction = no sale.
The demo made me long for the days of RF: Guerilla, where you'd drive right into the middle of an enemy camp and use your sledgehammer to smash apart all those shoddily-constructed Mars Quonset huts.
For me, that was way more fun than being able to rebuild a bridge I gleefully destroyed.
I know that Starhawk isn't coming out until next year, but I wonder if it'll steal a bit of Red Faction's steam.
I did see a bit of similarity in the dusty, mars-like map shown in the Starhawk preview.
But I know that the environment is really the only thing similar between the two games, and that was only one of the many locales to be seen in Starhawk. I'm interested, though. RF Guerilla wasn't a terrible game.
I just finished Guerrilla and thought it was repetitive so maybe linearity will enable them to have a more interesting . RF 1 was pretty linear and I didn't think it was so bad.
I for one CAN NOT WAIT! Its on my top 5 list. Loved the demo, can't get enough of the magnet gun, and love rebuilding. IDK why everyone is whining about it not been open world, the devs have said part of the game takes place on the surface, the SS's of the surface look pretty awesome. Personally it was the open world of Guerrilla that bored me in the end. I say again CAN NOT WAIT.
Mark IV style mutha f*ckas!
