Torchlight hitting retail in January photo
#PC

Runic Games’ digital download Torchlight is indeed hitting brick and mortar.

Earlier this afternoon, Encore Software announced an agreement with Runic that will give the Diablo-esque videogame a corporeal form soon -- as in January 5th “soon” according to the official stuff.

This retail release is for the PC version of the game, which is the only one that exists as of right now. In an FAQ on the official Torchlight Web site, Runic states that the team is working on a version of the game for Macintosh OS Snow Leopard. It is also mentioned that a decision on whether to release it for consoles has yet to be decided.

Torchlight will hit retail shelves at $19.99, the same price of the digital version available now.

Hmm, it would be interesting to see how they would handle the controls on consoles. All that micro-management with a controller would make my head explode.

I would totally buy this game a second time if it came to consoles.

micromanagement? wtf its diablo

remember in diablo how all you do is spam left click?

My first time playing Diablo I was on the PS1 I don't remember much about how it played, but I dont remember having any trouble playing it. That said I still think games like this are better suited for the PC.

This game is very fun, I bought it after the guys at Giant Bomb were talking it up in a Quick Look. It's kind of a blend between Diablo and WoW (minus the online part), or maybe some of the missions in Warcraft III where you control a hero. I'm enjoying the hell out of my very first Steam purchase.

Now I just need to know if the retail copy will have DRM or not.

no multiplayer...no purchase.

What's the point of a Diablo clone if you can't partner up with a buddy for some phat lootz?

I don't think this would do well on console. Remember Diablo for the PlayStation? It was terrible.

@JamnOnTheOne and everyone else upset there is no multiplayer
They are currently working on making a Torchlight MMO, no release date yet though.

Yeah, word from Giant Bomb is that sales of the single-player game will fund an eventual free-to-play MMO version.

Sorry, I'll stop plugging Giant Bomb now.

Giant Bomb.

@ Homicidalmutnatmonkey - Did you read the article? They ARE making a mac version! =D

This game looks really sick! I would buy it for $20, but not if they're dangling a console version hanging over my head...hmm.

Welp, looks like I'mma have to finally upgrade to Snow Leopard.

I have to admit that the lack of multiplayer is a little bit offputting, especially seeing as I recently stumbled into a group of Diablo fanatics that are more than willing to team up when D3 comes out. From somebody who has this, is it worth waiting out for a sale on Steam/hard copy version, or should I just rush out and get it ASAP?

Letters numbers and spaces are ok
i find myself just spamming one ability and kiting bosses around most of the time on Very Hard mode (which TBH is very easy), and the cartoony graphics... I don't mind cartoony graphics but the whole game just reeks of WoW, and I mean REEKS from the style to the UI.

otherwise a part from those few flaws and no multiplayer it is a pretty entertaining game.

I'd buy it again for the 360. I'd love to play this on my projector screen whilst lounging on my couch.

If I weren't ass-deep in Borderlands, I'd be ass-deep in this.

If this hits the 360 I'd definitely buy it. Otherwise my comp is too slow.

While I don't know your computer's specs, Torchlight is not demanding at all. It even has a "netbook"-mode to make it play on old laptops, so you could give the demo a spin and see how it fares.
