I think you're offering up a false dichotomy here. Either we boycott this game or we forever accept a future of every single player game ever made being online only? That's what I'm hearing, and it doesn't make any sense.
Obviously there's games I'll accept this kind of thing from (D3 is one of them, and I think it has every reason to be this way) and there's some games I will not accept it from. I just finished The Darkness II. If that game had required me to be online to play single player, I'd have passed on it. Not every game is Diablo 3, ya know?
I just don't see any reason why I can't make these decisions on a case-by-case basis without tacitly giving my approval of Skeletor, Megatron and Cobra Commander taking over the gaming industry, ya know?

Buy and play what you like. No need to get preachy on either side of the fence. That's why similar, competing products are a great thing.
@Tristix: I understand that and agree. I am being a bit apocalyptic, but I'm scared man. I think if people see blizzard get away with it, that it will become more common, like on disc dlc, $15 map packs and online passes. Personally I don't care if anyone purchases d3 and I truly hope they enjoy it. I fully agree with the case by case thing. It just happens in this case I'm on the other side of fence as you for the reasons I've already stated. I'm not the best at expressing myself fully or properly all the time, but I in no way look down on you (or anyone else) for buying it. Fucking cheers brother.

Obviously Darkness 2 would be hindered. I think we can both agree on that, so that's a good example of an indefensible use of online single player.

@TSAVO: Sorry if I was preachy, but I do also believe people need to speak out on either side of the fence. We can't just be quiet and take what comes our way. No reason we shouldn't discuss it either and bring the community together more, with more understanding of each other. That's my opinion anyway.
@tekbunny: Now that, is what we really need. The option. Give people options to play. Someone earlier also said release a cheaper sp offline version. I can get behind all this. Options don't hurt anyone and can make more folks flock to your game.
