..... /facepalm
Torchlight 2 on the other hand I will be purchasing day one.
I'll be getting both for sure. Diablo III will have more legs, but Torchlight II will no doubt be a fun experience in it's own right.
err, beaten. i will play torchlight 2 before diablo 3, probably
Runic Games, unlike Blizzard, has no one to tell them no, or where to go, or say they're only dreaming.
As for the AH, that concern makes a bit more sense to me but even then, I think its easy to understand why they're doing it. Items were sold for real money in D2 from day one. It's going to happen in D3 as well. There's simply no way around it. Thus Blizzard takes control of that, brings everyone into that game, and hopefully that means it won't be entirely dominated by Chinese sweatshops.
I get that you guys feel like you have to stand up for yourselves and that's fine, but I think some of you, with all due respect, are so paranoid you're seeing perceived attacks from harmless and even necessary things. I promise, I will NOT think any less of you if you buy this game, and I will NOT question your devotion to fair gaming. Anyone that does isn't anyone you need to concern yourself with.
@Cloud: For me personally, no. I know blizzard could give a shit less about my lost sale. But much like voting, if you don't do it, you have no right to bitch when things happen you don't like. I think this is a horrible precedent, worse than online passes. Not everyone has internet, or good connections. Nevermind that its just flat out bullshit. When Ubisoft does it everyone screams, but blizzard gets a free pass? No.
@article: Can't wait for torchlight 2. Loved and played the shit out of the first.
@jimboxxx:
Actually, you have it mixed up. Diablo III will come to consoles eventually. Torchlight II, on the other hand is stuck because it's too large for a download title (over 2GB), but not 'big' enough for a retail release.
The good news, console fans, is that this game will probably run on whatever PC/Mac you already own. I can play Torchlight I on my freaking netbook. Nice study break when you're at the library etc.
I didn't think about it before, but this is probably another issue Dungeon Defender's has on console. The limit is 2GB for the 360, which matches the original install requirements on PC. But the current DD install on PC with the DLC etc? 6.1GB.
Of course we are talking about it here. But we're also voting with out pocketbook. And there are a lot of people here passing on D3 if you hadn't noticed.
@Tristix:
The "features" you talk about have a horrible side effect, though - no modding. Probably because Blizzard wants to make you pay for any additional content. Since Torchlight II will emphasize mod support, that's a huge difference between the two titles. I prefer games that are "open", that's a big reason for playing on PC in the first place.
YES IT IS DRM. No matter how you sugar coat it it is DRM. It's not like Diablo 3 is a game with no single play component. It has one that forces you to be online every single second you're playing it, that is DRM. Period.

So they're lying, then?
Come on, dude. There's every reason for them to do this that doesn't involve some sort of secret boardroom discussion with cognac and cigars and evil laughter. Blizzard are the good guys, always have been. Consistently high quality, consumer-friendly products. If they offer an explanation, and that explanation doesn't involve DRM, I think they've earned enough good will with PC gamers over the decades to get the benefit of the doubt, don't you?
@Jinx: Does psn cap at 2gb? I swear I've downloaded a couple things that were more, but maybe those were $20 titles. Id gladly pay that for T2 though. Also I would pick up D3 for consoles. After a price drop and as long as it didn't also force always online.
No, not really. I don't blindly support anyone. I judge people and companies based on their current actions not their previous ones. Blizzard can say whatever the hell they want but it will ALWAYS be DRM. You clearly don't understand what DRM is and why no matter what you or anyone says this is still classified as DRM.
Alright, don't come at me with this "if you disagree you don't understand what it means" bullshit, first of all. That's just immature.
Really though, why automatically assume the worst? When you've got a situation like we clearly have here where it comes down to your perception vs the stated position of the developer making the game, why automatically assume you're being blatantly lied to? You don't even know this guy, and unless you're mad about something you haven't mentioned yet, Blizzard has never done anything to you in its decades-long history to offend you. I don't get why someone would just jump to the worst possible conclusion like that?
Not my business, I know, but just out of curiosity. Is there any particular reason why you don't consider it an option to play Torchlight 2 on PC?
Because it doesn't matter. I don't need to assume anything. It's staring me and you and everyone right in the bloody face. You can't say something isn't DRM just because a company gave some good PR lines. It is DRM, it was always DRM, and it will always be DRM. If you don't see it you are blinding yourself to the obvious truth. I don't even care if their PR bullshit is true or not because it does not matter one tiny bit. DRM is DRM no matter how it's sugar coated or excused. Steam is a great service, but guess what that doesn't mean it isn't also a DRM service. Same thing here.
Yes, their reasoning makes sense, but in the end it takes the choice away from you as the player and requires you to have an internet connection at all times. If the internet goes out, no game = DRM. No other way around it.
I dunno, lol, but Ivé played D2 before only with myself and my friends on LAN. That didn´t hurted me.
...or it could just be an online game. You don't call online games DRM, do you? That'd be stupid. Things aren't nearly so black and white as you're making them out to be. I'll leave you alone about it though.
It's not an online game though. Single player= Offline. That's how it has always been and always should be. Diablo 3 isn't a multiplayer only title and locking the single player behind an always on connection means it is DRM.
Torchlight 2 UT is then *goes back to best the first one*
