[Our mysterious part-time Japanese correspondent 50ft. Samurai once again brings us a look at how Western developed games are doing in the Land of the Rising Sun.]
Those wacky anime/Nazis-looking Helghast are at it again!
For the third straight week, Killzone 2 is the number one gaijin game! I want Sony to know this. I want them to know that they are number one somewhere. The only somewhere that matters: in the hearts of Japanese gamers who like killing stuff.
Pangya jumps up to second place among gaijin games this week, and the PlayStation Portable Grand Theft Auto games go spit roast, placing third and fifth, tag teaming X-Blades at fourth place.
No real surprises this week, but the increasing number of PSP games on the chart is a good indicator of how strong the platform is here in Japan. Sure, everyone might be playing Monster Hunter on trains, but when they are alone in the bathroom, it’s all about some western gaming.
Anyway, frankly I'm shocked that they like Killzone 2 so much. Shocked I say.
on ファミ通TV they were talking about FPS games as if they had never heard of them before when they were going over the top 10 and saw Killzone at #1
"Ef pee es?"
i stupidly googled "gaijin games" instead of the word "gaijin" thinking that it was a commonly used phrase, rather than a japanese word followed by an english one. my bad.
No they are for the Sony PLAYSTATION and its third system of the highly successful video game platform series. It's ok we all make that mistake once in a while.
The Japanese aren't convinced that an electronic product "is teh bestestest" by a cheap price tag, a million generic FPS games and a 70% failure rate.
They go for features, future technology, reliability and quality of software.
There really is no grounds for anyone to say "360 is BETTER than PS3" it's just not, all it has over the PS3 is a smaller price tag which has led to more sales. Not better, just more affordable to the general unwashed masses.
it's like saying a Ford Fiesta is better than a BMW 3 series, because there are more Fiesta's on the road. It's plain stupid.
