Top Ten Gaijin Games in Japan Week April 27-May 3 photo

[Our mysterious part-time Japanese correspondent 50ft. Samurai once again brings us a look at how Western developed games are doing in the Land of the Rising Sun.]

Japan just finished up it’s five-day stretch of national holidays known as “Golden Week” and the numbers have come in from Media Create, the NPD of all-things Akiba.

Wanna hear how Monster Hunter G did in it’s second week? Hell no, you don’t. You wanna know how Killzone 2 did in the same period! Turns out it did pretty well for itself, selling a slamming 16,636 copies to become the 11th most sold game of the week. This puts it at a cumulative total of 57,641 for the two weeks. Seems like Japanese gamers like to pass their vacation time on the barren, stormy world of Helghast.

The other big news was the launch of Gaijin Entertainment’s X-blades, which was published by Ubisoft Japan.  The Playstation 3 and 360 version sold around 8000 units each, with the PS3 version landing closer to the nine-thousand end for the win, and second place overall among gaijin games. The Xbox 360 version comes in third proving that if you put your game’s heroine in a thong, you can count on pervs everywhere taking interest.

Check the full list after the jump.

Those HAWX sales must be from PS3 owners, sorely deprived of Ace Combat 6. Dammit! 360 owners can keep their Gears of War, their Halo, their Fallout 3 DLC, I just want Ace Combat 6 (and any future titles)!

This is stupid. Everyone knows the only game by Gaijin Games in that list was X-Blades.
So the real list is:
1 X-Blades (PS3)
2 X-Blades (360)

This might as a shock to you Chronic but people have different tastes than you.

I don't think liking shit games counts as having 'taste'. If someone told you they enjoyed eating turd sandwiches you wouldn't say "Oh, I'm sure they're very tasty but I'm just not that fond of fecal matter".

I think it probably has more to do with the partially dressed, anime-inspired female character splashed all over the box.

Thanks for that interesting perspective, I don't usually think of game sales in this way. Please do these more often.

"with the PS3 version landing closer to the nine-thousand end for the win"

Would you even say that it exceeded the mark, making it over 9000?

That's a poor showing overall for Western games.. I thought the buzz recently was about how Japanese devs were being left behind? Not on this evidence! (Worldwide is a different story I'm sure)
