Top Cow's Hunter-Killer getting the XBLA/PSN treatment photo

Zombie Studios, the folks behind Blacklight: Tango Down, will be bringing Top Cow's Hunter-Killer to life on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

Created by artist Marc Silvestri and writer Mark Waid, Hunter-Killer focuses on genetically-enhanced human weapons known as "Ultras." Originally designed to combat nuclear war, a group of Ultras go rogue, and that's when things get interesting.

There aren't much details about the game itself, which is being co-designed along with game production company, Union. How Hunter-Killer plays and what it looks like is a mystery. We also don't know when it'll be released, as the game doesn't yet have a publisher.

Zombie and Union are taking meetings with interested publishers at E3 next week, so hopefully we'll hear more soon.

There wa a time I was a big fan of Marc Silvestri's works. I'd love to check this one up. Heck, any good written and drawn genetically-enhanced-people story tends to catch me up.

Oh shit, I hope this turns out sweet. The comic has some fun stuff. I actually enjoyed Blacklight too (payed 600pts). Hopefully they learned some lessons from making that.

Too bad Blacklight was literally unplayable when I tried it out on PS3.

I have the entire run of Hunter-Killer comics from 2005/06! I am sure some comic fans don't care for them, but yeah, the comics were fun, good first story arc, thoughtful background fluff and a couple of crazy twists. Kinda sad it never got picked up for a second "season", and the the Avengers/Cyberforce cross over had no emphasis or interest in HK characters or story. Will definitely check this out though.

So, I know this isn't how it normally works (and I'm having one of my dull days), but if this is a XBLA/PSN title why does Zombie studios even need a publisher really? I know there's plenty more a publisher does then just puts out games but it seems like if the game isn't being printed there's few reasons to bother with a publisher beyond maybe marketing the game.. Which, lets be honest about this (no matter how good the comic really is), is going to be hard for something that looks like the source came right from 1993. So really, (not to put jobs/the studio on the line or anything) it feels like Zombie Studios should cut out the middle man and shoot to do this themselves rather then have to share the pie with a publisher.

Of course.. Now that I'm trying to think a little harder about it, I'm positive I read a month, or maybe longer, ago that neither console maker will accept a game without a noted publisher attached. Actually I think I read that around the time Two Worlds 2 came out.. In which case I say: Poop.

@BoomingEchoes Probably for financing mostly I would guess. It costs money to employ staff to develop a game, I don't know that they made enough off Blacklight to self-finance. Plus marketing, publicity and brokering the licensing agreement with Top Cow.

I'd rather a downloadable title based on the Wetworks comic. But hey, I'll demo this.

I'd rather see a game about The Authority.
