Top 10 Sega games that deserve sequels photo

Good old Sega ... you used to make such great games that anyone and everyone could love. But now, all you can deliver us is yet another rehash of either Sonic, Phantasy Star, or Super Monkey Ball. What happened? Even the hardcore guys over at Sega Nerds feel the same way:

It’s no secret Sega has some of the best franchises in all of gaming history. And for some reason that baffles mankind, they choose to ignore these popular franchises to create new and far less attractive ones like Yakuza or Billy Hatcher.

Consider this us calling you out, Sega.

Sega, for once, give us Sega Nerds what we want. Give us the games that made us love you to begin with.

Check out the top 10 sequels Sega has to make and post your own in the comments. I personally would like to see another Crazy Taxi or Skies of Arcadia. Make it happen!

Considering the fact that 2D games are very rare nowadays, I really wouldn't want them to fuck up a game like Ristar by making it 3D.

Dude, you tell me one person who wouldn't love to see a new DS Ristar game. It would be fucking awesome, stretchin' arms from screen to screen and shit.

It's Crazy Taxi, not Taxi Driver. You fail the internet Grim.

You do have to wonder why Sega is determined to keep flogging poor Sonic over and over. Most of the chatter or lists you see on the internet lists a pretty similar range of games that everyone has fond memories of and are gagging to get updated versions.

I'd like to see retro gaming go a little step further, Neo-Retro if you like. :) Where Sega can takes an old game or style and releases a brand new version. There should be nice low development costs, original but familiar gameplay for gamers and open a whole new market for home gaming.

Does that all make sense?

No it didn't. I guess an example may help.

Take something like Shinobi or Golden Axe. This is the key, create a whole new franchise but use that game mechanic (2D side scroller) with minor updates to give something extra.

Sure we could and would want the original games updated but it would be nice to get software developers happy to make some original content too. Perhaps there was stuff Sega has tucked away that was just seen as outdated as 3D broke into the arcades.

Sonic is like the modern Mega Man. There's been so many games I just ignore them altogether. It's ridiculous.

I would gladly sever an ear for a new Skies of Arcadia title.

Nagiko: Same can be said about the Mario series, Zelda series, Pokemon, Yugioh games, all of the wrestling games, Madden, Live, Fifa, Onimusha, Resident Evil, Socom, etc, etc.

The thing about our industry is, if it sells, then expect more and more of them to come out.

WHAT!?!? NO ZERO TOLERANCE!!
Here’s the games excluded on this obviously subjective list:
1. Zero Tolerance (everyone whos played this knows it was the only competition to doom before quake and was an obvious influence/ plagiarism/ precursor to half-life with it’s “no levels, linear yet free-roaming capabilities.”)
2. Pigskin Football (for the kids out there, it’s NFL Street MINUS the corporate sponsored EA watered-down bs and with flashy players like TO and Ocho Cinco replaced by Vikings and booby traps and TROLLS! Imagine pitching that game idea to a bunch of publishing execs; coolest. game. ever.)
3. Herzog Zwei (without this game, there’d be no C&C, War/Starcraft – let’s give this game the respect it deserves and show all it’s predecessors what they’ve lacked in the past ~20 yrs.)
4. Shadowrun (no, not the lame destruction of a good name Microsoft is doing; the bladerunner rip-off rpg)

Lol, most of this list have had 1 or more sequels. But I get what they're talking about, and would love to see pretty much every franchise on this list revived.

beyond oasis (that was the genesis iteration) series ftw! i'd go so far as to say i liked it better than most 2d zeldas. nights too, dammit. i'd love a wii or camera required nights 360 game as well.

and as crazy as it sounds, it seems like the only people who could make a fun, charming, intuitive, and engaging sonic game nowadays would be *gasp* nintendo. i rented the new one and i gotta say it's one of the worst, buggiest, and incomplete games i've played in recent memory.

personally, i'd like a 3d remake of sonic 3 and knuckles.

I could go for a true Phantasy Star sequel. I was never super crazy about the online games. IMO, Sega should have never have taken the Phantasy Star games online. But, oh well, I guess you got to do something for money.

Dude.

Skies of Arcadia. Holy **** that game was awesome. I'd play it again this winter break if I wasn't expecting to get FF12.
