Too soon: Aliens invade NYC in Crysis 2 photo

Looks like lush, green, and steamy environments won’t be in Crysis 2 unless Nomad decides to visit the NYC Zoo -- which could totally happen.

As revealed by editor-in-chief Gary Steinman's TweetPhoto of PlayStation: The Official Magazine’s March cover, the Crysis aliens have invaded New York City in the game's sequel. That means we’ll probably be killing them in NYC as well. No more jungle-jungle fun, folks. It’s urban-jungle time.

Also in March’s issue of the mag, they’ll list the 49 reasons why you need a PSPgo. I own one, and I still need to see this list. It's dusty and sitting all alone in my closet. Poor thing.

WORLD EXCLUSIVE: Crysis 2 set in NYC!! [TweetPhoto, via @TinyManRages]

They did the same thing with Predator 2 and nobody liked it. Except me, cos Danny Glover had some awesome lines in that movie.

I guess this means no more shooting Koreans. Unfortunate - the Alien combat in Crysis was pretty mediocre compared to fighting the slick human AI. It'll be nice to see the CryEngine in an urban setting, though. Nicely rendered archatecture will probably be easier on CPU's than the superfluous dynamic foliage/weather/frog habitats. Maybe Crytek will take the time to design actual levels too, as opposed to just copy+pasting huts haphazardly across Tech-Demo Island.

49 reasons to own a PSP go?

Is reason 1 the desire to flush 80 bucks down the crapper?

Wait, the article is about Crysis. Nevermind then.

But weren't the Aliens rubbish?
A change of environment is welcome though.

will it be multi-platform though?

@Qraze,

"will it be multi-platform though?"

Fortunately, it will not. I say fortunately only because the PC deserves a good exclusive FPS, rather then an afterthought console port. I believe this particular game will be all the better for it. (I have my doubts an Xbox could even handle CryEngine 3, but I don't have actual data to support that claim.)

they're doing this because it's multiplatform. The consoles can't process the jungle environment, so they have to settle for the same boring world of buildings we see in every other game.

although if the buildings are destructible and they do something interesting with the scenery, I think I'll be happy

Stevil: "They did the same thing with Predator 2 and nobody liked it. Except me, cos Danny Glover had some awesome lines in that movie."

That's hilarious, I just had a Predator marathon last weekend; Danny Glover was bad, but Bill Paxton was THE WORST.

@runtheplacered & Xzyliac

Isn't CryEngine 3 the one they developed FOR multiplatform games? As in, the one we've already seen footage of running on PC, PS3 AND 360? Or maybe that's a different engine...

Hmm...maybe. I was mostly agreeing that we need more PC-exclusive FPS'.

At least the first Crysis had a beautiful landscape and unique gameplay where there were many different approaches. It looks like this sequel will throw both away, if it's going to be in the streets of NY. Hopefully it takes place in a less urban area.

Crytek game? Non-jungle based levels? What is this madness.

@eggdog14: Crysis: Warhead made the aliens a decent foe. A little more enemy variety and far better AI meant that when they showed up you anticipated fun, rather than bemoaned the lack of human enemies. It also helped that the game throws both factions at you throughout the entire game, rather than having them each confined to separate halves like the original Crysis did.

@runtheplacered actually CryEngine 3 is for the most part just an optimized and updated CryEngine 2, it was designed for faster speeds (including the editor). The tech teaser released a while back highlighted that it allows for real time editing on consoles, amongst other things. The PS3 version also has support for color grading within the engine.

You need a PSPGo because you're in that film where if that guy doesn't spend $1,000,000 in a week he has to pay it all back? I didn't like the film, nor do I like the Go.
