Tony Hawk's Proving Ground demo to hit Xbox Live tomorrow

     Activision

In an effort to perhaps distract gamers from the fact that its competition releases this week (Electronic Art's Skate), Activision has announced that a demo for Tony Hawk's Proving Ground will be available on Xbox Live tomorrow.

As shown above, the demo will show off some of the game's new features, like modifying the environment, nail the trick, the in-game video editor, and more. No word yet on a demo for the PlayStation 3 version of the title, but there's a chance we'll see it later this month.

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground comes to the Xbox 360 on October 10, and even if you don't care -- did I mention that the game comes with a Guitar Hero III demo?

Does it come with a demo of the GH3 demo?

Does the THPG demo come with Activision peeing in your shoes because you're stupid enough to buy the same game 9 times?

The Video actually looks pretty shitty.
I´m a Tony Hawk fan right from the first one on the psx but the game just has become boring. I think Skate will be a lot better.

I think it's appropriate that it's named Proving Ground. Neversoft has a whole damn lot to prove. Prove that they're not complete franchise milking assholes. Then again, EA better be gentle with Skate and treat 'er right. She's a good one.

I don't see why everyone thinks skate will demolish Tony Hawk. The difference between them can be compared to say, the difference between Gran Turismo and Burnout. They're both driving games, and it's perfectly within reason to like them both, but you get a different sort of satisfaction out of both of them. The same applies to skate and TH. There's plenty of room in the market for both of them.

THPS has been done to death. I actually thought the new THPS was going the Skate route, giving it a bit more of a realistic edge, but alas it's still the same old crap we've been doing since the first game, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

@Zanch

It's true they are two different styles of skateboarding games.
The only thing is, is that people starting playing Tony Hawk because they liked skateboarding. There was never any kind of REAL skateboarding game. Tony Hawk was all we had. It just seems like with driving games(your example)
there's a lot more room for variables in the different styles there can be.
Skateboarding is skateboarding and should only be skateboarding. Maybe Neversoft should just get in on the Jackass game that's being made and do something with that license instead. They like the wacky, stick with the wacky. Just keep skateboarding out of it.

I dont think skate is gonna demolish th, cus th put skateboarding games on the map, and even though there not realistic there still fun. As far as skate goes, from what I saw in the demo it didnt seem like as great of a game as most of you are saying. Its just doing something new which is great, but theres a lot of flaws like no manuel or inverted tricks, and a lot of tricks dont have the right name, plus theres no vert play, its basically street. I think the next one will be a lot more improved, but I also think we will always have TH games to because they are to different skating games with 2 different kinds of gameplay

@BADInc

You can manual in Skate. You just gotta slightly pull back or push forward on the right stick. You can do vert tricks as well, the two triggers are your left and right hands for grabs. The only things you can't really do are handplant-like tricks, no complies, and impossibles from what I know so far.

Tony will bite it for the next 2 years until its competition drives them on to more creativity. Skate will rule the consoles until somebody else can think outside the box.

Sorry for the confusion but I was tryin to say manual tricks(Half Cabs, Primos, casper, ect.) And I kno there is somewhat vert like in the demo if you go in that semi pool thing, but its sketchy still. Im pretty sure I read somewhere that there are no halfpipes in the game, although there is a megaramp and im excited for that! Also I forgot to add, I hate the other skaters AI cus you could be in a string of tricks and they just skate into you and it always makes you fall. O yea and one more thing I hate that screen it goes to when you fall

Skate will not "demolish" the Tony Hawk game. At all. Much like Rock Band will not "demolish" Guitar Hero III. Know why? They've been around. You can't just be the new guy on them hard streets and expect to get all the respect. You can from the hardcore, but not every-uno. You have to do some shit you'll regret.

Tony Hawk doesn't look shitty, either, it just looks...similar to every other one I've played. Sadly though, Tony Hawk is that one game I always buy, play for like one or two months and then resell it. I like 'em. That's my bag.

Dood, I am not trying to troll bait flame you here but.... Did you play the demo? Yes there are manuals. Yes there are half pipes. As a matter of fact, if you played the demo, take a look outside the fence that keeps you from the uber-goodness that lies beyond and you might notice a GIANT FRIGGIN CONCRETE HALFPIPE that made me have to change my shorts. I spent an hour trying to escape my confines after I saw that. I also doubt that we have been exposed to all the tricks you are capable of doing by playing the demo. I am not sure about this but I am willing to bet there are tricks you have to learn first before they are useable.

I won't hide it, I am quite fond of this game and cant wait for it. My favorite thing is that you cant just rub against a curb/rail, push Y and VIOLA! your a grinding fool. You need speed and timing to hit those tricks.
SKATE is to THPS what Dirt or Forza 2 is to Mariokart.

@ Teh Boognish

Skate will be an OK game, the second one should own faces. I even heard at ASR this weekend that they are thinking of adding longboards in the second SKATE. That will make me want the game even if they suck.

While there are half pipes in game, there is no half pipe contest in the X games LAME! No inverts and no manual flat land tricks really limits what I can do in a line. Referring to grinding in SKATE if you just roll over a grindable surface your board kinda just starts sliding in this unnatural awkward way. Theres no speed and timing involved there. Timing to make a trick isnt a new thing if you actually played the TH games. I think everything is available from the minute the game starts you have to find out how to do it. the flick it system somewhat limits the variety of tricks in the game.
