Honestly seems like Robomodo dropped the ball bigtime on something that should have been extremely simple to execute. I mean, all the groundwork already existed, why only copy and past the enviroments but build everything else from the ground up?
Also, 7 maps sounds dismal, though I'm not surprised by the preferential treatment to THPS2, newer game of the two and all. And THPS3 stuff being paid DLC makes me vomit in my mouth -it should have been included (my favorite game in the series, btw)
"Yet, the game doesnt let you change what song is playing"
As irrational as it sounds, I was on the cusp of just getting it and seeing for myself, till I read that sentence. You can't imagine how extremely important it was to allow us to change songs, WHEN THERE WAS A FULL SOUNDTRACK WORTH. To not allow it when you only have a scant handful is fucking shitty -do we REALLY want to listen to the same shit over and over that badly? If I do ever get this now, I'll be playing with my MP3 player in my ears, instead.
Ugh. This whole development makes me sad, I was really looking forward to this. Thanks for the heads up Allistair.
thrashed was pretty good, the soundtrack was great and it was fun as hell...too bad it died too.
I'm still gonna get this though, whenever it gets released on PSN, as I don't think its 4.5 shitty, or at least it doesn't look that way.
Guess who owns Neversoft and just published a Spider-Man game 3 weeks ago. "There wasn't going to be a chance" is kind of stretching it.
The issues? Glitches, odd bail animations, some button delay, and a lack of visual charm in its presentation (in other words, it's very bland looking).
Still, it's fun.
The system is fluid and nearly 1:1 with the old THPS 1/2 system aside from the ragdoll bails. Those are what become less and less obvious as your skaters landing skills become better and better. Once they do it is essentially the same game. I went back and forth between it and THPS2x while I was playing, because I was so sick of HD before my skills went up, but after switching back to HD the first time (I completed 3 levels 100% on a new profile in THPS2x) I realized that it was still EXACTLY the same game. The only noticeable difference is you can make way sharper turns. This is still a fantastic game.
THPS 2 and 3 were my LIFE, I lost interested after those. This is totally faithful and awesome. It just has some buggy ragdoll physics that go away once you know what you're doing. Can't wait for the THPS3 levels. I'll admit wall riding is flawed , not as "sticky", and ragdoll physics messed up bail reset times (and often look ridiculous), but there is a way to make them reset faster, and the game reminds you of this shortcut essentially every other load time. PLEASE GIVE THIS GAME A CHANCE. It needs backing and more levels (Tony Hawk hopes it becomes a platform for original levels and more).
Robomodo has finally proved itself and I think this review is just pooping on that. But I'll admit the first impression (first 1/3rd of the game or so) was wtf, then, I switched to THPS2X and owned that shit, then I went to the same levels in HD, and did the exact same combos which before which I didn't think were possible, and after that I fell in love. But it was just due to mostly rustiness from hardly playing in so long, taking the game so seriously and thinking you cant do crazy shit because it looks so real (the HD graphics might make you second guess wall riding up to that roof, but that's all still just as possible), and nagging bugs that didn't affect the game as much as it affected your outlook on it, in the end messing up how you play it.
Biggest disappointment was no videos, (ie intro video, and skater videos on finish, and most of all NO SECRET LEVEL, REALLY?) Hopefully they make a secret level dlc. I want Roswell and Skate Heaven NOW.
I also like how they included some of the songs from the original version (like the essential Public Enemy jam "Bring the Noise" and "You" by Bad Religion), but also bolstered it with some new tracks, my favorite of which are "The Bomb" by Pigeon John, Flyentolgy by El-P and Trent Reznor, and "We the People" by Lateef the Truthspeaker.
